Looks like some significant updates. Zwift looks to be trying to become a more all encompassing indoor/outdoor training tool.
Not sure I get why they’re worring about giving credit for outdoor rides, maybe to reduce the number of people who pause their membership for the summer?
New routes are always welcome, especially on some of the smaller maps. Looks like it may be some of the Paris-Roubiax sectors being added to the France map which could be really cool
It’s definitely to keep people subbed over summer, but also makes it much easier to determine their racing capabilities when people come back to race after doing tons of outdoor riding so they’re not just smashing lower categories like every September-November lol.
I think it’s a good move by them, especially with Training Peaks buying IndieVelo and including it as part of the subscription all be it renamed to Training Peaks Virtual. Subscriptions are getting expensive and I suspect a lot of people are getting a bit of subscription fatigue, I know I’ve cut mine back as I’m no longer prepared to pay current prices for multiple apps when I can get by with less. The days when I’d run TrainerRoad whilst riding on Zwift are gone, I now use cookie cutter plans from the past that worked okay, but modify them in Intervals.icu and use Zwift as my workout player and that gives me more engaging options for endurance rides or even throwing in a race instead of a threshold session.
There’s also I suspect a lot of riders who aren’t too fussed about in depth data analysis, and from the articles I’ve seen, Zwift’s basic style will probably suit an awful lot of people. Having a one stop shop is something that will appeal to a lot of riders I think, be interesting to see how this all pans out in time.
Rouvy has given “coins” and experience points for outdoor rides synced to their platform for quite a while. Zwift is now apparently doing the same.
