Yeah, but he still went sub-8 for his final Kona!
I suspect he will say he’s taking some time off with the baby
Not sure if he’ll be at this thought process in the video yet, but sounds like the new revelation will be he needs to be competitive with these guys at middle distance (i.e. able to run shoulder to shoulder) before he can be competitive with them in a full. He also says he was really overtrained which showed itself in Dallas because he can’t remember the last middle distance race that went that bad (also had a lot of struggles in workouts leading up to it). Figures Ditlev’s swim gap is the most you can be behind now too… (from Discord Q&A)
Another year, another chance for LS to throw the baby out with the bath water and come up with a whole new way of training…
Same as it ever was…

Did they take it down? I don’t see it in my youtube feed anymore?
There is water at the bottom of the ocean.
enjoyable watch. Seems like a rational and somewhat more positive reflection than I expected. The recovery angle could be feasible. I’m not too confident that he will be able to elevate his swim though too much. I want to see him do well. His performances are maddening, but he’s the everyman pro that I think many of us can relate to.
Yeah, it was a welcome surprise to only have a couple grand revelations heh. I was worried about his race schedule at the start of the year and how it would affect recovery, but the training load probably had more to do with the overall fatigue level. Not sure there’s a path to Stop Sucking at Swimming Pt. 2, but it’ll be fun to watch as always. ![]()

I have not listened to this yet, but might be of interest here:
Enjoyable breakdown of the race; a few of the big questions:
- too many drafting penalties?
- did Laidlow benefit from moto-draft?
- how much did Gustav’s shoes help?
Great interview with Chelsea Sodaro on the Greg Bennett show: The Greg Bennett Show: Chelsea Sodaro - IRONMAN World Champion on Apple Podcasts
such a good race - this run battle is epic
the blocking/drafting call on Long is gonna be controversial - its too bad as I don’t think the spirit of the rule was to punish that situation
I find it both odd/cool that the announcers want to talk to the racers in the moment
breaks your heart to see Iden walking off course, but trying to get a few words from them (also Long in the penalty box) while they are trying to process, what a test of professionalism. I would have said some real stupid stuff in the moment.
Sam Long got totally screwed on the bike….just instance that IM still hasn’t adjusted the time window for passing when you are passing a line of riders vs a single rider.
And then it is compounded when another rider comes from behind, leaving you no place to go over which you have no control.
Total BS.
Uh-oh….that may have been the death blow for Kanute. Blum just striding it out on this descent.
my quads ache sitting here on the couch watching - how in the world did Blu have the legs to just go on the downhill on Diagonal
what happened there? didn’t watch the whole thing.
what a run from Blum !
4:51 and 4:36 miles…
Iden looked wasted in the run - he didn’t have it today. I heard he was sick post Kona as well.
My guess is he wasn’t feeling well so he just pulled the plug
