2024 XC Bike & Equipment Thread

Yup I did the same. No luck on the s-works I was looking for. There are some places in Florida that have them still, but not for the sale price. I’m sure they’ll sell them any day now.

The comparison I did showed that there’s only few MM in reach and seat angle, other than that the '23 Epic Evo and the '24 Epic are essentially the same. In my case I could afford an MSRP Epic 8 Comp with alloy wheels, alloy stem & bar, GX and lower grade suspension or the discounted '23 Evo Pro with Fox Factory with compression adjust, Roval Carbon throughout and AXS, oh and 300g lighter. It was a no brainer for me.

The website stock numbers haven’t updated so I’m hoping when business opens on Monday I’m at the front end of the queue for a stock bike and don’t miss out.

Saw this today on the new epic. What a terrible execution of knock block.

It depends. Alex Dowsett just did some wind tunnel testing road vs mtb shoes. MTB shoes were faster at different yaw angles for him. why? No clue but that’s what the wind tunnel is saying.

If anyone in here is around 175lbs running 2.4s I’d love to hear what tire pressures you’re running just out of curiosity

What’s bad about it? Is it the looks? I wish my bike had a knock block, have to keep the spacers in or else I’m at risk of wrecking my top tube in a crash.

I’m 180-185, same tire size. Running 21 psi front and back on tubeless. Feels really good!

Yeah just the looks. Looks really bulk and like it was just added last minute. Not sure why the entire bottom cover needs to move like that. I’m guessing trek has a patent

Hello
I’ m running 17/18 psi on 2.4 tyres on FS bike with rear insertion

I’m 180lbs and run 2.4 Maxxspeed Rekon Race on 29mm ID rims and run 15-16 front and 16-17 rear. I will note that I ride “light” and I’m good at picking lines on a hardtail.

Running 2.35s at 19/21 weighing 175 lbs. This is the Midwest so basically few rocks but plenty of roots. Depending on conditions, I may go down 1-2 psi.

Wow that’s low! Thanks for the input everyone. Running 21/21 right now, it’s been feeling a little sluggish but I think the dirt is still a little wet and tacky from winter so it’s probably that.

running 2.35s, 194 pound rider weight, 25mm ID rims, usually 19F/21R, more if the course has jumps or hard landings to limit squirm. Will be mounting some 2.4s on 30mm rims soon and hoping to maybe drop a pound or two of air.

Should add, most trails are pretty packed clay, nothing too rocky, and pretty good at picking clean lines.

Really looking fwd to knowing more about these wheels!

I bet they’ve gone wider prob 28-30 width, lighter and built in compliance.

Also I’m guessing innerdrive mountain hubs at least on the XC wheelset. they definitely need to make them lighter since their M series is kinda heavy

19/22 psi on 30 internals with no inserts. Up one for park, down one for wet conditions

Looking for recommendations on upgraded wheels for my Canyon 7 Lux. They came with carbon Reynolds wheels, and the freehub has exploded twice in 2 years.

Heavier Rider - 225-230 pounds.

I like the Reserve 28 XC (maybe I can be as fast as Keegan), but worried about spokes breaking. Bike shop said I should go with the Reserve 30HD - they are a tad bit beefier. I know Reserve has a great replacement policy. Looking at alternatives for a “heavier rider”.

Any heavier riders out there experienced with Roval Control SL, Enve M5, or one of the smaller name brands?

with what hubs have your wheels been rebuilt?
how many spokes does the rim have?

I’d try rebuilding them with DT hubs first. My systemweight is >200lbs and I’ve been riding DT hubs and never had a problem with them. If you don’t want to rebuild your old rims, the (any) Reserve will be a solid purchase. They don’t have a rider weight limit. Keegan is on their gravel wheels with Boost hubs btw

I’ve had a set of Nexties with Carbon Ti hubs and apart from disliking the hubs I’ve never had a problem with the rims. If you scroll up a few posts there was a XC wheelset discussion not too long ago. Maybe it’s of interest for you.

Bontragers also have no rider weight limit and a great warranty, just to throw another option out there. The kovee rsl is 1180g at $2500, and the kovee pro are 1380g at $1500. Both are no rider weight limit, 2 year crash warranty and lifetime warranty.
