Still love my XTR
I just wanted to update this post - my '23 Epic Evo is now 24.2lbs on my scale with the modifications above. I would say at 24.2lbs the bike is more than capable as a race bike, and the upgrades I have done are not radical.
I find that to be overly impressive myself and know the bike will lose a lot of weight with a lightweight cassette, wheelset, and tires.
I have a buddy who is going to let me try some Rekon Race 29 x 2.4 F/R to see if I like them. I am not sure if they will be any quicker than the Ground Controls but will be nice to check them out!
Is this an s-works epic evo in texas in medium? trying to find one.
Sworks EVO RS Medium size
Lachlanās looked kind of like the blendr. Just two extensions on the front of the stem and then two screws (obviously titanium) to hold the plate on. Keeping the plate away from the bar to create some space for hands in the middle for those XCM, (Leadville, Lutsen, Sea Otter XL, etc.) races where you might want to use the position, is a plus as well.
How to do that without adding 100 grams to the bike you just spent a boat load of money on to drop 200g? ![]()
In Kerry Wernerās latest video, he mentions Enve will be dropping a new frame in April. Given heās racing their Melee and MOG this year, it seems very possible that it could be their first MTB.
My guess is a 120/120 along the lines of the Allied BC40 (or so many others).
Edit: disregard, itās the Enve Fray and itās not an MTB
I thought he said new melee
Itās a new road endurance bike, even though I donāt know where the hell they tare gonna fit them between the Melee and MOG, itās called Fray and will have the frame storage bay like the MOG. the name leaked a few months ago, ride wrap had it online as well as you can find the headset spec as āEnve headset Melee/MOG/Frayā online
You are correct, itās hiding in plain sight aka Google search.
The link doesnāt work but there it is.
Disregard, not MTB.
Got to say the mullet character is just cringey to meā¦.his videos were good without that.
Seems heās trying to do that alter ego type deal that Dylan does.
Iām debating whether I want to bother cutting down my new bars. Theyāre 780mm. My old bike had 740.
Doing a survey of contemporary bikes, the Epic 8, new Scalpel, and Oiz come with 760. The BC-40 comes with 780.
I donāt have the blade that Park Tool recommends for cutting carbon bars and while itās cheap, Iām not sure I want to bother with the hassle of it at all since Iād probably only go down 20mm to 760.
I know bar width is super personal. While Iām a proponent of narrow bars for aero on road, Iām not sure I care that much about it on MTB since when Iām in a flat aero section I ride with my hands way in towards the stem anyway and narrower bars wouldnāt change that. So thinking I may well leave 780 for maximum control on trail.
Iām 6 even and ride a L for what itās worth.
Iāve been having a similar debate for a while. My bars are 760, and my fitter suggested cutting them down to 740, but I havenāt bothered yet and am not sure itās worth it. Iām 5ā6" and on a M, so similar to what youāre thinking about but scaled down a bit. I feel like 760 is narrow enough for me. My old bike had 780mm bars, and they definitely felt too wide for me, but 760 feels good for general trail riding, and Iām not sure there are enough use cases where going down to 740 would benefit me to outweigh the situations where the added stability of the 760mm bars is nice.
Iām 5ā9" ride a medium. I run 680-660 bars, but I do so because both of my shoulders are blown. Iām an outlier.
I run 730mm on my XC bike and 760mm on my enduro bike. Iām 5ā7ā 1/2, much longer legs than torso, and am on a medium Blur. Iām riding a small Ripmo for enduro, but Iād probably be slightly better off with a medium.
I run 740mm on my xc bike. Nicer to have narrower bars on switchbacks and tight trees etc.
Run 770mm on the enduro bike for the leverage and control through higher speed chunder and rocks, G outs etc.
You and @jn92 got me curious. Trying to get a real world weight on the ZFS-5.
EDIT: measured last night on carpet which was dumb. Moved to a hard surface and got quite different numbers.
Not apples to apples. Removed seat post collar, have axle in, but it has shock, BB in, chain guide, complete rear brake with housing and hardware, bottle bolts, etc.
Iām not going to strip any more stuff off the previous build just to weigh so this wonāt ultimately be that useful. Adding up all the spec weights of all that stuff comes out to somewhere in the 400-500g range but thatās a crapshoot.
Best guess is the L frame is somewhere around 2000g, maybe less. The claimed weights are all for Medium frames so not shocked itās more, but as predicted itās more than the claimed weight.
I use this from amazon, itās a high quality blade and a lot cheaper depending on how many you buy, I use for carbon as well as steel, never had an issue, I put them on a bahco hacksaw that served me well since forever, ~$30 on amazon https://a.co/d/51aiHd2
I think for me 780 is too wife for XC, but itās worth starting there to see how you feel, you can always easily cut later
Iām still failing to see the reason for a one piece bar/stem the ones Iāve seen are likited in size and usually heavier than some high end stem/bar combos
Same here. Especially the ones that have a weird shaped spacer.
Again, Yetiās new ASR is looking better and better.
