2024 XC Bike & Equipment Thread

I’ve heard rumor of a new Cannondale Scalpel coming……

April release.

Not a huge revamp, more refinement is what’s been said.

A tiny bit more slack, 120mm rear is about all I’ve heard.

I heard no lefty??

That would make me sad.

I’d have to believe that Lab-71 and Hi-Mod and maybe the 2 will still have the lefty.

AI offset is likely to be a goner too.

Literally the only thing that kept me with the Transfer SL was that the Gold Kashima Coating matches my fox shock and fork… OneUp V3 is what I’ve been recommending to people too.

The gold Kashima does not match my bike at all.

But I wanted it.

Plus, it gives me an excuse to upgrade to a Fox Factory at some point.

Looks like S-Works will have flight attendant. So maybe a double debut?

Just did this with my SB115. Loving it.

I want this bike, but it could have what, 6 different batteries?

  1. Rear der.
  2. dropper
  3. Shift remote
  4. Fork FA
  5. Shock FA
  6. Power meter

At some point having to worry about keeping so many independent tiny batteries charged becomes a major hassle.

I have AXS on both my XC and Road bikes today and it’s mostly fine, but this is another level.

And your bike computer!

All mechanical not looking so bad! Hopefully they send notifications when need to be changed. No way I could keep up with all that.

I’m at 5 batteries on my road bike. 7 if you count head unit and Radar. It’s a bit of a drag, but I spend more time on chain maintenance than charging.

There are other threads arguing the necessity of electronic groupsets, but there ARE other choices if you prefer fewer batteries. Wired XX1 and XTR work awfully well…

I assume once the FA battery runs out of juice it just opens up the valves so that you can still ride. charging batteries is imho not a huge issue with how SRAM is going about it. Just swap in a fresh one and pop the dead battery on the charger - good to go. A dead Di2 is much more annoying than a dead SRAM battery (assuming you got full spares). But yeah, I agree. It’s nice to just hop on the bike and ride without having to tinker with lights, HR strap, head unit, power meter calibration sometimes - liberating. there are always upsides and downsides to these things.

XTR is my preference

Went from XTR to XX SL, and I would say that XTR simply works better…

2025 should yield 12sp XTR Di2 with battery on the mech like SRAM.

In my opinion the cable makes difference… becouse you shift by feel and fast and electronic is not that sensitive and fast…

This is an age old debate based on preferences and individual experiences. I have had much better luck with Sram, either mechanical or Eagle AXS (haven’t tried transmission). I have had 3 bikes with shimano (XTR, XT, and XT) and all gave me issues in shifting when compared to Sram. Prefer the AXS but still have mechanical Sram eagle that works well too.
