Yep will do a full write up with the view from white corral when I get my head a bit more straight. Lots of lessons leading up to today and more from today.
9h 5m. Totally my fault, I missed the Outward Bound feed station and had to ride back.
Lost a fast group, got isolated and frazzled myself.
Absolutely gutted. ![]()
Furking furk.
Weather/course was pretty nice today, but there were a couple headwind sections inbound that were time bleeders without a group. It’s such a crap shoot with groups, really hard to manage.
As founder of “Rocket Multisport” with an athlete doing Leadville, I approve this message.

Sorry man. That sucks. Great work though, while I know 9:05 isn’t what you wanted it’s still great effort.
Great day for me, finished in just under 8:44. And, randomly sat down next to @grwoolf after the race, and realized we spent a good amount of the day in groups together.
Was definitely warmer and sunnier than expected, a slower course than last year, and Powerline turned into a minefield. I think we counted 7 people with broken rims or flats in the same section.
Didnt feel that warm when I was getting hammered with rain coming down to Turquoise Lake! Was legitimately painful at points!
Great ride/result today, funny that we were in common groups without knowing it until after the race. And that was crazy luck that we ended up sitting next to each other with thousands of people spread all over that place.
Crazy how isolated the weather can be up there. I think we had a few drops of rain on that Turquoise road section, but nothing meaningful. I did had a very brief and light bit of hail heading up powerline. Just enough for mother nature to put us on notice. I carried arm warmers in my back pocket all day (and rain jacket in my frame), but never had to use them.
Yeah…I was one of those that flatted on Powerline outbound. I haven’t flatted in 5 years until today. Day was going according to plan and was 5th in 50+ at Carter aid and felt like a time around 8 hours was in the cards. Took forever to fix and then had a chain issue I had to fix. Then the tire was low on Columbine climb so I hit it with Co2 and by the goat trail it was flat again so had to add another tube. I still ended up getting the big buckle with a 8:52 time but had to dig deep the last hour plus as I knew it was going to be close. My moving time was 8:20 and I think almost 30 minutes of that was changing flats. I am more proud of this result than if it had gone as planned based on how I was able to keep the mental side together and not give up.
Great job to everyone who raced today! I am not sure I have been this tired from a race before!!
What a race! 10 hours almost on the dot for me which is pretty good for a first timer starting almost dead last in the brown corral. Spent most of the day passing people (almost 600) based on the number started and my finishing place.
I will say that was one of the most dangerous races I’ve ever done. The combination of lack of descending skill for many riders in the back coupled with the two way traffic on Columbine, I witnessed many close calls. I remember hearing @Jonathan say it’s one of the most dangerous races he’s been a part of and I see why.
Totally worth the trip from Rhode Island and all the hours on TR!
What an event! The energy of the spectators was awesome.
I had the ride of my life. My nutrition was dialed, although I ended up carrying 1 bottle too many for about 80mi of the race. I had no idea what kind of time I would be doing so prepared for the worst case scenario.
I didn’t sleep last night. I was so nervous. I started getting delirious climbing powerline.
My goals were (1) don’t crash (2) don’t cramp and (3) finish.
8:48:42! Special thanks to my buddy who crewed for me and man, I must have spent 60sec total swapping out bottles and USWE.
You’ll get it next year!
Leadville has the most aggressive cut-off of any event I’ve ever seen. The start was also one of the most interesting I’ve ever been part of, because we were all spun out and going downhill. You’ll get it next year.
Congratulations to all who participated today. Y’all have guts. Not as much as this guy though. 8:05:58
They need to make a documentary about him. Incredible.
I saw him inbound on CR10 he was in a group and just owning it. ![]()
Managed a little better than planned at 11:08 today, working my way from 1,436th at Powerline up to 1,101st at the finish. Pacing and nutrition was good, only felt “really bad” on Turquoise Lake inbound. Bike was perfect, wind and course seemed really good, temps were nice, only got a tiny bit of hail and rain climbing that sandy valley between twin lakes and powerlne inbound. Went with a ridiculously unorthodox flat pedal and running shoe setup with a 28 tooth ring but it seemed to work super well today. I was a walking maniac!!
I think I finally understand all of this “Leadville Family” stuff after riding it. The challenge of the course plus the mythology of the race plus the incredible support of the community AND OTHER RACERS make this a must do event.

My friend missed the 12 hour mark by 1 min 35sec.
He is a machine so will be back next year. But that was a nasty surprise this morning. I was so faksure. Did not have the chance to talk to him, maybe something happened.
I’ll never be back again. It’s just too expensive to come out from the UK and the training has far too much impact on my life.
It is what it is. Still very disappointed though, especially to lose it on such a silly mistake. ![]()
Saw him coming down Columbine. Incredible stuff.
I saw him come in. Stayed for about an hour after the official 12 hour time. Got to show respect to anyone who can keep pushing to get to the end.
