2024 Leadville Thread

I did all right hand side shitty line on the descent today. Was fine, if suboptimal.

My point was that bouncing up and down across the rocks on the climb really isn’t the best use of energy (I also did this crappy line on the way up to test it).

I finished in 8:03 in 2016 with a 1:19 up columbine. You got it!

I’m assuming you’re a rocket on the flats? I need a tow rope or something. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Holy crap, I got upgraded to White!

I’m probably the only person here who’s celebrating such an incremental upgrade from the back, to almost the back. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: if I had to guess, there were too many people in Brown and they bumped up people who at least attempted the qualifiers as I wouldn’t have made white on times alone.

Also if we want to have a TR meetup at the rider’s meeting on Friday I’ll be wearing this…easy to spot hat and vest.

Twisted my ankle getting out of bed this morning, and it’s fairly tender. Hopefully the Ibuprofen does the job.

Don’t ever get old. :older_man: :slightly_frowning_face:

Not going to thumbs up this as it sucks. Fitness helps stave off many issues of aging, but time marches on. An ice pack may be in order as well.

Too late, already old. Hopefully it isn’t too bad.

Sorry to hear. Ibuprofen and rest. You still have 72 hours for this to recover so you’ll be fine!

Thankfully it’s already easing off.

OK, this rain needs to chill now. Don’t need the course soaking.

It drains almost immediately, very few spots where it gets muddy. It was soaked and overcast w some rain during race last year, hence the record times and running out of big buckles. I could do without the rain on race day, but fine with a daily soaking until Saturday. Only negative is if it storms hard enough, it can effect the lines that have been formed from folks pre riding.

Columbine was definitely wet when I did it, and it was definitely slower to climb because of it.

Admittedly that was a couple of hours before I’d expect to get to it on Saturday.

Monsoon season here. Probably going to do this everyday. Good news dirt will be hero if not a hair loose in spots. Was perfect this evening in Breck.

If we get a day without rain, it’ll be back to dry and loose.

I think you’re way over thinking your Columbine performance from the other day. A little rain to firm up the course is a good thing. It happened last year and was quite literally all time fast, the course record got crushed and way more people than expected big-buckled.

I will take cool and rainy here over hot dry and sunny any day.

It’s not that, I assure you. I can easily feel the difference when climbing on softer vs harder surfaces.

I’ll take your word for the times in general, but I know that generally I’m slower on climbs when the gravel / sand is getting stuck to my tyres / I’m sinking in.

Still think you’re over thinking it - I’m not buying any “sinking in” on Columbine. I’ve ridden it dry and wet, it drains fast. Even just that climb I’d take cool and wet over hot and dry.

It literally had puddles!

But yes, I agree, I’d rather not climb it in the heat. This is more about what happens in the hours before rather than when I’m on it.

We’ll be fine… what’s the worst that can happen?

Chipmunk attack. Gotta watch out for them.
