2022 Specialized Crux info?

It is from a shop he has a long relationship with….the shop had it and they worked it out.

It is killing me that I want to swap from my 2021 diverge to this new Crux.
The Diverge has been such a great bike which has bought me so many great times.

But something about this crux has really grabbed me🙄

I would have to choose between racing the Crux with Zipp 303 Firecrest or my 2016 Cervelo s3(rim brake) with a low end wheelset in a 235km, 4000km of climbing road race!:grimacing:

Just a few updates:

  • Specialized now officially clears the Crux for SRAM 2x 46/33, 48/35, 50/37
  • the problem with the clearance is NOT primarily the chainring getting too close to the chain stays, but the tire getting too close the AXS battery on the FD.
A 40/42 (measured, not nominal) will clear the standard width FD with around 4mm of clearance.
That means any wider tire should likely only be paired with the wide FD and subsequently wide crank.
  • I have seen 1x 46T now working on a standard width crank, although the distance to the chain stay is exactly two hydrogen atoms.

Just keep in mind that these are two very very different bikes. If you do lots of rough gravel where the FutureShock helps a lot, it might be a very rough ride on the CruX.

Diverge is a gravel bike = comfort on rough roads
CruX is a “race bike” = speed speed speed, and this of course sacrifices comfort

The CruX looks amazing, but unless you really know that the type of riding supports that type of bike, I wouldn’t be too quick on changing over.

I’ll second everything mentioned here. I’ve got the Crux in a 56 and swapped the 1x for 2x 50/37. It runs really, really well and no gets more road time than my Tarmac.
Long time trainer road user, new to the forum. Happy to answer any questions.

Proud to become a member of the still small circle of 2022 Crux users. I couldn’t resist the call of the gravel and against all expectations my LBS managed to get a size 52. It is still on display in the shop but will move in with me and some Specialized siblings in 2 weeks. I can hardly wait to confront the pristine ride with Germany‘s winter weather.

I have the Pro arriving on Dec 1- I’m so excited. It’ll get a little winter action (Chicago) but will be mostly a Zwift machine until April-ish.

I really can’t wait to rip some gravel on it.

Really would love the Crux to become available on Zwift.
Gravel climbing machine!
Hopefully I’ll finally get mine next week

I envy those who already got theirs delivered or even have an ETA. Have a pro on order, with no delivery date in sight. The joys of 2021 supply chains. That said, the weather in the Northeast won’t be particularly bike friendly for months, so perhaps I should think of it as free storage rather than shipping delays.

I was lucky enough to score one last week. Only one ride so far but initial impression is very very positive. First race (extremely muddy CX) tomorrow. Weighs just under 17.5 with my xtr pedals, so a bit less than a pound more than the advertised super light sworks model.

I made an oopsie!
Still bought it…

Will set up everything properly (other wheels, not 2 Power meters on one bike) on the weekend.
So far, rides nicely. Looks the par, the Terra handle bar fits me extremely well, and sprint shifters on a gravel bike are super comfortable.
Can’t really say much regarding the bike, as I rode it with quite a lot of stuff on it and also changes basically all contact points at once (new pedals, shoes I hadn’t worn for a year, a bib that didn’t fit, a super light saddle etc :man_facepalming:t2:).
Weight of the bike with these heavy pedals, bottle cages, an out front mount and these not so light wheels is 7.88kg.

Nice one - a sight that makes waiting for mine even worse.

Have got availability of the silver, black and gold SWorks Frameset and considering options for building up.

Backstory - I have been looking at winter bike / gravel bike options for a while. Open UP / Aspero / Exploro but think the Crux looks like a great option for me.

I live in the uk and most of the riding is going to be on the road with maybe the odd foray down tracks and on toe paths or whatever.

I want 2x as I’m not ready to give up on the higher gear ratios for descents and fast riding on the tarmac.

The current idea is
Sworks Crux Frameset with alpinist seatpost, Sworks stem and Terra bar as per Standard Sworks build.
SRAM Rival AXS 2X with power meter (46/33 with 10-36 cassette)
Zipp 303S. These seem ideal as road biased but can handle some off road work.
Gravel king slick 32s.

Interested to hear thoughts on the above. The Rival groupset is a bit heavy at 3.2kg but with the rest of the spec I reckon this will come in around 8.5kg which is not too bad at all. Not sure I can justify the extra money for a Force build if only a few hundred grammes saved

Should I be considering wider tyres? Something like the Pathfinder Pros? Or the gravel king semi slick?

Any experiences of 303S with wider gravel tyres?

Thanks!

I would go with wider and semi slick tires (Panaracer, Specialized, etc). The only reason I have slick gravel kings on my Roubaix is because the knobby ones were not available. Note my rides are usually 50-50 gravel and road. When it’s dry it’s not a problem but if it’s damp things get “interesting”…

So, I gotta ask…what is your stable looking like now? If I’m correct you have TT disc brake bike, aethos and this crux? You did have the SL7, but got rid of it?

A man with a refined taste

S-Works only for availability? Or can you get the standard frame?

I asked this on weight weenies.
Would the rival crankset with a power meter be lighter than the force cranks with PM?

I had read the spider pm is heavy?

If this is the case I’m inclined for the Expert model and make a few upgrades.

I too, am leaning expert for this reason. And also the Rival PM is only $250 USD compared to other much more expensive options.

Just remember the Rival PM is only left side….that is the reason it is less than much more expensive options. Slightly better than some other one-sided PMs.
