Ooooof…c’mon, Robbie.
It isn’t the comment so much, but the lack of acknowledgment of it after the fact that bothers me more. I was about to advocate for more of him and less of Rob Hatch, too.

As a non-native english speaker, I have no clue what the hell he was talling about
As a native English speaker, it feels like a non-story. He apologized, let’s move on.
I didn’t hear it on the live coverage, but the apology on the CyclingTips article seems to indicate he was acknowledging that a large part of the issue was a lack of immediate correction.
I don’t want to minimise the issue, but he probably just felt embarrassed/annoyed that he’d said something dumb whilst trying to be funny?
I don’t know what point I’m really making, except maybe give him a chance to prove that it was either an exception or his normal behaviour.
Stage 13 up tomorrow…another day almost certainly for the sprinters. However, with Ewan out, that is one less sprinter’s team to chase the inevitable break, so if a break gets a sizeable gap on the early Cat 3 climb, they may stick it to the end.
But since the sprinters have few chances left after this stage, I expect a bunch gallop.
I wonder how steep the uphill finish sprint is? If it wasn’t for the cork incident perhaps it would have been a Girmay finish. MVP usually likes uphill sprints too but he also looks worn out
All of sudden I realized that there was team Movistar. They are like in stealth mode. What are they doing? Secretly put Valverde 11st in GC is all?
Ive never heard that expression, so the tweet they used saying it is a “really common and deeply unpleasant slur” seems a bit misleading. That tweet is also from a cycling tips writer, hmmmmmmmmmm. The only other reaction is a no source tweet saying “did he really just say that”.
I admit the part of the audio being cut in the replay with no mention of why until an apology 2days later is a bit interesting. I guess they had to decide whether it was worth bringing it to light with an apology or not.
Damn…Bardet abandons w/ illness.
Man, this stage is gonna come down to the wire. Will depend if enough teams want to contribute to the chase to finish off the break. the tail-cross wind is definitely helping the break stay away. Main peloton is breaking up.
And just as I write this, the peloton is starting to bunch up a bit w/ 20k to go…that could be just enough for the break to survive.
ETA - 10K to go and the break is down to ~1 min. This is gonna be close.
Well, I am glad I didn’t do a preview of today’s stage because I woulda predicted a breakaway while the GC boys waited for tomorrow’s stage.
Ooops.
Bora took the race by the scruff of the neck and blew it up. Finally some exciting GC racing. I really thought when Carapaz went with just under 30km to go that it was race over, both the stage and the GC. But he got clawed back, Yates got his redemption stage and Carapaz took pink.
Don’t know if Bora’s tactics were the best and they got the result they wanted, but it made the race entertaining. Hindley is impressing me….I thought his Giro results in 2020 were largely the result of a weak field, and while this field has not been as impressive as I first thought, he is going head to head with them.
Tomorrow’s stage looks tough….would not be surprised if a break makes it to the finish as the GC a guys keep their powder dry until the final climb.
70km in and no break. Flat out racing so far.
Am either impressed or astounded that Nibali and Valverde (e.g. older racers) are in with a shot at the top ten and both riding well. Was going to pick Nibali as a surprise podium contender before the start but seemed like too much of a stretch. Hmmmm…
Me, watching today’s stage…
Did a GC contender even try and turn a pedal in anger? Just pathetic….
And was there a reason why we had to endure Rob Hatch blathering on by himself for almost the entirety of the final climb? GCN has like 7 guys calling these stages, but there was no one except Hatch at the end……and why he gets the plum position for the final hour is kinda beyond me. I’d much rather have Dan Lloyd, Sean Kelly and Robbie McEwen for the final call.
…because Dan, Robbie & the other one have to rush off for make-up and final rehearsal for the tv Breakaway show with Orla…
I have time to watch 30 mins of the stages at around 8:15AM pacific time each day. So generally the stage isn’t finished. I’m really liking how I can start the live feed with “live show”, and then slide the bar back a bit and do that sort of delayed streaming thing.
Totally worth the $50, and really looking forward to the Tour.
I love the long highlights. The perfect scenario for me would be a long highlights that took me to 60-90min from the finish line. That’s perfect trainer fodder.
I hate rest days.
Maybe it’s just me, but this year’s Giro has been completely lackluster. Last year route seemed harder, and had at least one of the big three (Bernal).
