2021 XC Bike Thread

I did wonder if it would be light enough. But where does the change in hunch come from?

I just really need it to have room for 2 bottle cages. That was the main thing holding me back from buying the current version. Don’t wanna have to put on a backpack for all the >30km rides.

Current no1 on my list is the Orbea Oiz, but they have severe supply issues, as in close to 1 year waiting time. I dropped the Canyon Lux for now cuz of the 70 degree headtude angle. Would That one could really use an update imo.

This works great and what I’ve used for my first 3 races this year. It can hold both a 24 oz and 22 oz bottle. Then I carry a extra bottle in my jersey for longer and/or hotter days.

Change of plans for me. My LBS originally told me that the BMC I placed a deposit on would be available “early summer”, and then switched that to “late fall”. I spent some time looking at other options and came across Vitus bikes through Wiggle/ChainReaction. I opted to just buy this instead of wait on the BMC that either will or won’t come and could possibly be more expensive than when I put the deposit down.

Seems like pretty solid spec for the money…geo is pretty similar to the BMC as well.

Unreal ride. I immediately jumped on the bike to beat the impending thunderstorms, wearing jeans and a hoodie and all. I ripped around the hills, up and down. The combo of the seriously light weight and forgiving ride make this thing want to rip all out at all times. Up and down. Waffled for a long time between the Epic and Epic Evo, and am extremely happy with my choice. I know a lot of people have considered the two. For me, I’ve previously owned and Epic and totally loved it. But at this point, I wanted something that would shift to be a bit more on the fun side without giving up much, if at all, in speed and efficiency. So for me, the answer was to build a super light Evo. I’ll race it, and I’ll also take it out on epic weekend adventures.

What bottle cage adapter thing is that? I will be buying one!

Sweet build! I’ve also been considering the epic and epic evo. I’m curious to hear how well the evo pedals without the brain.

Uh, so jealous. I’ve been trying to get one of these for ages…

I have been waiting for them to show back up on amazon since I got my spark. Can’t bring myself to pay 100+ $ for a bottle cage if you go the international shipping route.

I used to hate hardtails, but this thing now feels incredibly capable after riding gravel so much this year!

Looks like a super light Kona :call_me_hand:. How slack is that HTA? Looks very capable and sprightly.

Love that build!
I am so tempted to snag a SID or 34SC in 120mm (to replace my SID 100) on my Procaliber SL HT. The bike is so fun and capable, that I think a tad more travel and skosh slack from the taller fork might be nice upgrade. Just hard to consider at the price of a fork unless I can guarantee selling the 100mm to offset the difference.
