Has anyone used the new fast trak yet?

I just ordered the new 2.35 Renegade T5 for my rear tire. I would be interesting in hearing from anyone using the new Fast Trak as well. I’m interested in how well it would corner for a front tire.

I’d like to hear what you think as the renegade for a rear tire seems like it would be pretty good.

thanks Steve!

  • do you ride much in SoCal conditions ?

i do have a fast trak control in back right now , but the older model and only a 2.1.

the reason i mention this is i just want to try and ascertain how much difference going up to to 2.3 will be? (sorry if that a naive question) just keen to nail down the selection to save on the old $$$!!

I’m coming from a 2.3 Renegade Control on the rear so I don’t expect much difference. I’ve used it for the last year and really like it and am replacing it because of wear. I’ll update once the 2.35 arrives and I’ve had a chance to ride it a couple of times.

Maxxis Recon Race 2.4 dual XCO TR vs Schwalbe Racing Ray 2.35 Addix speedgrip Super groud

Does anybody have any experience with both and how would you describe them? Asking for front tire application.

The Recon Race 2.4 is on my MTB right now, I have ridden the Racing ray 2.2 a lot. Curious to see if people feel that the lack of longer nobs but higher volume (thus lower pressure) of the Maxxis can make it a just as good a front tire as what I suspect to be a better version of the Racing ray 2.2.

I know this is a super late reply but I missed it when posted however the thread popped up again so…

I love the Barzo when it’s dry. Back in 2020 it was a very dry year in my region so they were great. Fast forward to 2021 when it was wet the entire year. I found the Barzo terrible in the wet. I’m used to slippery rocks & roots & have no trouble riding those conditions. Not on a Barzo, though!! I won’t ride them anymore unless it dries out significantly. Switched to Forekasters & couldn’t be more satisfied. They roll surprisingly well for how much grip they offer. Did a long ride the other day that included 10miles round trip of road between trail networks & they didn’t feel horrible on the pavement either. I’ll be sticking with them. I should note that I’m not racing much at all right now & but I get after it a a few times a week.

Just fitted a 2.35 Fast Trak as a rear tire on my bike. It replaced a Ground Control tire of same size.
It does roll faster for sure. But it also have noticeably less traction while braking and cornering. It constantly wants to slide. I am riding in NorCal where the conditions are currently dry, hardpack, with little to no “loose over hard”. Based on that, I don’t think they will be very confidence inspiring in the looser conditions of SoCal!

@MI-XC Just picked up a set of the race Mezcals myself. Threw a Barzo in for the times when it gets wetter.

Hey guys, thinking this might be the best place to ask. Can anyone compare a Race King RR and Cross King FR combo to a Racing Ralph RR and Racing Ray FR combo? Currently using Rekon Race 2.35 FR and 2.25 RR as training/trail riding tires and have a set of Racing Ray/Ralph 2.35 FR and 2.25 RR for racing. Was thinking about ordering another set of race tires to put on late in the season when my current ones are worn.

Was considering trying the Race King and Cross King combo as an alternative and was wondering if anyone could compare that combo to the Racing Ray/Ralph combo in terms of grip and feel. Looks like the Conti combo would be a slightly lower rolling resistance size for size compared to the Schwalbe combo but wondering if I will find the Race King lacking in grip on the rear compared to the Racing Ralph. Thinking the Cross King may be grippier than the Racing Ray but just guessing.

The focus for these tires will be racing, mainly hard packed clay with some roots and rocks. May encounter some wet conditions but don’t expect to ever be encountering soft loam or mud, more like puddles or greasy spots on otherwise hard packed conditions.

Has any tried the combo of specialized fast track ground control? Any thoughts? Riding in the UK

That’s my current setup!
I went from ground control front & rear to ground control front with fast track rear.

The setup is noticeably faster rolling. The setup has also noticeably less grip. The rear has much more of a tendency to slide in corners, or slip during steep technical loose climbs. Overall I find the faster rolling worth the compromises. I ride on the US West Coast, so terrain is typical dry, rocky, loose over hard.

Just got a 2022 spark RC that came with the Maxxis Rekon race 2.4 and im loving those larger tires and the design of the tire that are a good compromise between rolling rasistance and cornering and braking control. Dont realy know if after this ill get back to use the 2.2 ardent up front with the ikon at the back
