I took at bottle of mt dew from twin lakes inbound at LT100 a few years ago and it saved me. Mt Dew is magic, no room for haters.
this was basically my question. On an average day mt dew is the last thing id reach for, but all of the marketing hype aside from sports drink manuf, if you look at the actual content, its basically the same thing, available at almost any gas station for fraction of the cost.
Just making sure i wasnt missing something obvious that would make a can of radioactive sugar-water detract from performance (assuming i have no GI issues).
DO THE DEW
Dew It Country Cool.
Just decarbonate it beforehand. Maybe put it in a bottle and shake it
Bro what are yall talking about. Come down to the corral at any of the big crits and watch all of us smashing red bulls and other caffeine. Itās the only legal PED and you better believe imma try and max out that bish.
Anyone remember Jolt soda? In 8th grade before an 800 meter race in track my mom thought it would be a good idea to drink a jolt and eat some caramel candies. Didnāt end well. ![]()
The only time I think I might have overdone it was with Celsisus Heat. Those bad bois have 300mg of caff and I nearly had a heart attack waiting in the start gate for my TT.
Call it relative all you want, thereās absolutely nothing healthy about how many people (myself included) fuel on the bike, especially during races (i.e. drink mix). Healthier implies health benefits vs. fewer detrimental effects.
One of my high school classmates drank a 2L in an afternoon that basically left him bouncing off all the lockers in the hallwayā¦
Jolt Cola - āAll the Sugar and Twice the Caffeineā.
The health benefits during the race are fueling the workout/race, pushing through without fuel would bring a lot more detrimental effects.
You certainly can be a lot healthier with pre and post-ride eating whole foods versus just loading simple sugars, but midway through a long ride/race it really just has to be a bunch of sugars in whatever form.
Haha. I got handed a Red Bull after a local crit one time and drank the whole thing while chatting up the girl who handed it to me. I remember going home to mow the lawn immediately after and my dad stopping me halfway through to ask me what was wrong ābecause I looked so intense.ā It was like taking an Adderall or something.
Exactly, I cant explain it really any better haha.
Last season during a training ride I drank a ābangā for some reason 2/3 of the way through the ride and the same thing happened. I was drunk/tipsy feeling with tunnel vision and kind of felt invincible LOL. I laid the bike over in a corner 15mins (gentle gravel crash, nothing serious) later ![]()
If you donāt regularly consume energy drinks they can absolutely mess you right up. I went through a phase where Iād slam 2-3 Rockstars before lunch ⦠Iād probably die of a heart attack if I attempted that now
I can definitely handle a single RB, two would be pushing my limits. If youāre used to it, one before a short race will definitely give an advantage!
Iāve ridden with a Monster-sponsored World Cup downhill racer a few times (by that I mean watch him ride away from me both uphill and down, those dudes and ladies are super fit). They get as much product as they want, but they definitely have the option of getting sparkling water in Monster branded cans and thatās what most choose to drink, especially post-race on the hot seat/podium or in the pits. We all got to try some, couldnāt tell a difference between that stuff and LaCroix. Never met any Red Bull athletes but assume it would be the same.
Construction sites run on Mt. Dew, energy drinks⦠and nicotine- it works
If you want to quickly flatten any carbonated beverage, this is what I use. One pour through itās almost entirely gone. Two pours and it cannot be more flat. Amazon.com
Ha, good idea that Iāve never tried. I better get a cheap one to try because I bet my wife would not like my resiDew in her fine cab-savās ![]()
There is a $14 knockoff in there on Amazon. The real McCoy is so satisfyingly effective though
