What the logic in using endurance off the road? Why not regular everywhere? Which do you use for gravel?

There is no logic IMO.

Endurance lasts longer but also doesn’t seal holes as well. I’d always go for a better ability to seal holes over the convenience of topping off less frequently.

I have moved to the Orange Seal Regular with most of my wheels (road, gravel, mtb during the summer). However, during the winter (mtb) I still use the Endurance because of the lower temperature limit it has (we have real winter here).

Effetto Mariposa Cafélatex on my side. But not super happy with it. It tends to dry quite quickly.
A bottle of Muc Off is on its way to replace and try :slight_smile:

I’ve been using Stan’s in my MTB for about 8 years and yes, can confirm it stinks of ammonia when removing the tyre. Super stinky. I haven’t had a single flat in 8 years though.

So for I have only tried Stan’s and effetto mariposa. Effetto Mariposa definitely needs frequent top ups but it also seals much better than Stan’s and it’s only half the price of Stan’s or Orange seal

Where are you located? Maybe that’s true in Europe? Seems basically the same here in US:

Netherlands, it’s around 26 euros per liter for caffelatex vs 25 euro for slightly less than half a liter for orange seal here

I’ve been using Stan’s Race with good success, but as stated, it’s difficult to impossible to get through a syringe. I haven’t tried it yet but there are 3-D printed threaded funnels available that screw onto the valve. Hoping that does the trick. Got a 3 pack for about $15

I bought the big syringe thing that Stan’s sells and than works.

Until you need think you need to apply a little bit of extra force to inject the sealant the hose popslose and everything gets covered with sealant … :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’ve never used the plunger in my syringe - only ever as a funnel. Works pretty well and can usually thread the hose through the appropriate number of spokes so that the syringe holds itself up pretty steadily. That frees up a hand to compress the tire before pouring in the sealant - then once the majority of the sealant has made it’s way down the tube I let go of the tire and it inhales the rest of the sealant as it takes shape again.

And another PSA because this only recently occurred to me and I really should be the kind of person who would have realized this sooner:
The syringe-as-funnel is still useful even if you’re adding directly into the tire instead of through the valve core. No need to pour carefully and try to minimise how much splashes onto the rim or spills over the edge when you try to rotate it into the tire. You can leave the open bit of the bead at like 4 or 8 o’clock and then stick the syringe tube into the gap and down into the lower part of the tire. (especially helpful with inserts)

(When I figured that out I felt a bit like the meme going round just now about the guy who didn’t know oven mitts were a thing or the one who didn’t know you could wait for the shower to warm up before getting in :flushed:)

I’ve used Stans, Orange, and Silca. I will never use Silca again.

Orange with Airliners are my standard.

Silca being a HUGE PITA, is reserved for things like Unbound, or road tubeless.

Silca was ineffective for me after 2 months in a normal climate carefully following instructions. Replenisher was also not useful. I think they released a half-cooked product on this one. Like probably many of you, I enjoy their other various stuff. Aero socks!

Weird, I’ve had a great experience with Silca, been using it for a year now and only had to use a Dynaplug once for a larger slash on the shoulder of a tyre. What problems have you had?!

I’ve been using Silca this year, but their customer service has about convinced me to try something else (I’ve had clumping problems with their fibers and they keep telling me that I need to do things I’m already doing to keep the sealant from drying out–even though it hasn’t dried out on me before replenishing). The only other sealant I’ve used before is Stan’s regular, and even without the fancy fiber foam that jacks up the price, Silca is better than Stan’s regular for me–but I’m sure I can do better. And Silca is so much more of a mess that never gets cleaned out of my kit.

I’m thinking about Orange Seal (regular) or Stan’s Race next. I don’t want to restart the debate between the two, but rather I have a specific question.

With Stan’s regular, my tire would seal up but then when I tried to pump it up to road tire pressure (for me, about 60 psi) it was very likely that the seal would burst. This would happen even if I had left it to cure for a couple of days first. It might hold for a few miles, but at some point sealant would start gushing out again.

Has anyone had a similar problem of seals reopening with Stan’s Race (or Orange Seal regular)? I haven’t heard any stories here or elsewhere, but I wanted to check.

I haven’t had this specific issue with any, but I’ve had a similar journey as you… Stans Regular to Silca to Orange Seal Regular. I think almost everyone who pays attention has had the Silca issue with it drying quickly and the fibers clumping rendering it basically useless. It’s also the toughest to remove from gear/kit. Orange Seal is the goldilocks zone for me… easy to install (injectable), good sealing, and easiest to remove from where it’s not wanted. It dries out faster than Stans Regular, but that’s my only complaint. I’ve set up several GP5KSTRs without issue. They seal up quick and no issues.
