Resurrecting this old thread @Brent ! Did you ever come to a conclusion on a travel bike. I live in New Zealand and travel a lot to Europe, Asia and US for work (4-6 trips per year). I take my bike in my BikeBoxAlan when it’s one flight and one hotel, but when travelling around I rent. I’m totally over renting, and after a lot of research just ordered a Ritchey Outback Breakaway. When it arrives, I’ll post the build here. I think this bike is going to be my new best friend travel buddy.
I retired my SL4 as my around the world travel bike and now use an Aethos 2. Fits fine in my rim brake Scicon hard case (I use wheel bags rather than mount wheels in the cutouts. I do 3-5 overseas trips per year. I bought a Bike Box Alan for my SL8 because of the integrated cockpit. After one trip I went back to the Scion case, it’s much smaller, easier to travel with. The BBA struggled to fit into taxis and vans in Asia. Not an issue with the Scicon case. (Pic taken in Nagoya Japan.)
