What are your unpopular cycling opinions?

Coolest event I have ever done.

Seriously.

Haha, now that’s spicey.

And wildly incorrect of course.

It can only be called a gravel race if it occurs in the gravel region of Kansas. Otherwise it’s called a sparkling dirt race.

For 98.7% of amateur cyclists, your improvement is not being held back by your fully optimized/personalized training plan, your equipment, your genetics, or your age.

They are being held back by your consistency, grit and determination (or lack thereof). Pick any plan that is reasonably close to appropriate and follow it. Make the time. Make the sacrifices. You will see improvement. To be clear, not saying you will be pro, but you will get better.

Probably the wrong thread, but there is a point you reach where you won‘t get much better. Even when staying quite consistent. (At least my experience.)

Aluminum bikes are as good as carbon, if not better

Speed wobble and shoulder width are terrible reasons for saying no to narrow bars (36cm)

Indoors is much more effective that outdoors. For the record i do prefer the outdoors

I think when most people say “consistent”, they mean “stick to the plan and complete the assigned work”. At least I do.

  1. The “spirit of gravel” is a cult.
  2. Expecting someone to wave back on a ride is the equivalent of asking a woman to smile more.
  3. Women’s bike racing is more fun to watch than men’s.

The whole Upper Midwest isn’t mad at this, we’re just disappointed.

If a race doesn’t have at least one Grade Four section, or genuine A and B line section, then it’s just a gravel race.

Wasn’t that just a random fan account from Indonesia though?

I agree with all 3. Why is the “Spirit of Gravel” so often brought up by people who used to win races when the riders better than them didn’t show up???

Spirit of gravel = no drug testing

That’s brilliant

eh, either way. they do fuck all for the culture of the sport except promote the ‘serious road cyclist’ demographic.

At least rapha support Lincoln GP, provide funding to Herne Hill.

Maap hosted the summer cross which was cool.

Agreed for sure.

Tired of hearing about “the spirit of gravel” from pro athletes showing up with factory support

Tired of everyone in gravel having to “build their brand”. Whether is a stupid mustache or the fact that you’re vegan… build your brand with results

Al but one of my bikes have electronic shifting, but the one mechanical one… when that’s setup perfect, it’s the mothers milk! Electronic is nice but it’s just a luxury

Wind tunnel testing is useless unless you’re on a TT bike

people spend way too much money on the last 1% of marginal gains for hundreds-thousands of dollars when they havnt even scratched the surface of significant gains

But why sleep when my oversized pully wheel can save me 1 extra watt?

Cycling youtubers are, without exception, annoying and unwatchable.
