If an opinion goes over a certain level of unpopular with me, THEN can I comment??
I wonder if people really do that. Makes it really hard to follow your progress during the years and decades.
- 100% can confirm I have seen it locally, from multiple athletes. It definitely happens and may well be unintentional. I notified one friend when I saw it and they didn’t care to make any changes.
I have on occasion, but I exclude them in Strava so they don’t boost my stats.
Anytime I’ve dual recorded I can’t get to strava fast enough to delete one before someone sees and I have like 4 followers…
No they don’t
It’s the unpopular opinions thread so you get a pass…
Your bike and cycling gear actually matter a lot.
How opinionated you are online is inversely proportional to how good you are as a cyclist in real life.
The solution to that is to set default privacy to “only me”, then later delete if duplicate or change privacy manually if I want people to see it. Is also helpful for things I don’t want to show people but just want Strava & TR to know about, & for when I have photos I want to upload that I want the first few visitors to see. Then make the activity public.
Kudos in the first two minutes after making something public makes me think they have notifications set up.
I was about to make my account private for that very reason until I finally figured out my issue and stopped dual recording. Not much I do that I wouldn’t want someone to see, but I did have that thought as well.
But then I might forget to make a yoga session with my toddler public and how would people know I’m a good dad?
Ha yeah there is one person I fear (not really) would see it before I could edit and kudos both, his wife said he’s obsessed and just checks constantly. He regularly gives me kudos before I can go in and edit a witty title.
Funny slight OT, that person is a cousin once removed that has the exact same name as me. I had never met him or knew he existed. Apparently my dad met him and of course it came up that his son had the same name. Bikes came up they followed each other on strava. He saw I was on there too and followed me. It took me over a month to figure I was not some how accidentally giving myself kudos.
Just fact, it’s not everyone or even close.
I think you might have more fun in the unpopular cycling facts thread?
Strava has become the least toxic social media site (even despite the names of some of the segments…) so some of us turn to it often to avoid scrolling the hell holes.
It’s also the only social media site where I can actually see what my friends are doing, as opposed to mostly being fed ads and irrelevant stuff.
I didn’t think this was an unpopular opinion, but what the heck:
Strava is not a social media site
Not evil enough?
Shopping cart theory! Love it.
My wife is convinced it is. She also heard about the bimbo looking for a husband on it. Yikes… Strava is a double edge sword?
Calpe is overrated. So many amateurs copy the pros and go there during the winter. It might be a nice vacation, but for many it leads to unproductive training because they can’t stay within their zones.
