IKEA is actually allcaps, it’s an acronym of cities.
I just started using Xert as even though I am 50 I am very Gen Y when it comes to training…instant feedback/gratification required. I respect Trainer Road’s ability to make you a better/stronger cyclist but I am finding Xert’s adaptive planning to meet my goals with constant feed back on progress works well for me. With TrainerRoad I could not always maintain the schedule and without the instant feedback/guilt on what that meant for my end goal the motivation was not there. Everyone is motivated differently but I am finding Xert more like a coach and not left to my own devices. I believe TrainerRoad absolutely have the ability to play in this place and eclipse rivals but lets see how my Xert journey goes!
correct my family used to be distributors for a midi keyboard called Ensoniq, they had the most realistic sounding midi files and had the “music science” down pat but in the end they closed down as well as a lot of audio equipment companies my father used to love because they were the best technically. But in the end people bring in the money for a business same as those companies were popular with the real audiophile musicians is what I see with trainerroad. At some point in time if the market is too small it won’t sustain the business. If those companies just did what Yamaha, Bose, JBL and the other companies that are still excisting today they could have survived whilst still having a resemblance of their original DNA.
In regards to TrainerRoad I believe the have the best trainning plans and I am making a playlist on youtube of cycling motivation since going hard while watching netflix really kills my workout sessions. I failed finishing a couple of Trainerroad workouts compared to sufferfest out of boredom but I trully believe they are better. It’s common sense how many people in the world can finish a 2-3 hour workout just staring at a graph or watching a movie. I hate Zwift and don’t really see the point to it aside from the races because I am very competitive I am a current subscriber to TR and sufferfest and finished a 12 week plan there because I am a cycling noob and it’s keeping my attention to actually finish a workout before getting bored. Good thing I found this guy on youtube called Davis races and he talked about how he would fight the boredom by just watching cycling motivational videos on youtube. I believe if trainerroad’s goal is to make people faster they should put effort into making people engaged to finish a workout as well. How will you get faster if you aren’t engaged to finish a workout in the short end of it. Offcourse the long term goal is getting faster but adding engaging stuff to actually stick to the training plan will make people faster.
I really prefer TR’s method to Zwift/Sufferfest. I don’t need or want the gamification, I set the workout on my PC and choose my own entertainment on the TV…Netflix, Youtube, whatever. There’s nothing wrong with the other apps, but if I’m on the trainer I want it to have a purpose and I think TR has put more thought and science into their plans than the competition.
same here. i just joined TR this year and love it for what it is and really hope it doesn’t change in any noticeable way. performance and stability improvements are always a good thing of course.
strava is there for the challenges and kudos to make myself feel more important than i really am. trainerroad is pretty damn good right now!
For my $0.02, I was a zwift user but found I needed structured training, switched to the sufferfest as that was pretty cool but the lack of its own calendar and having to use training peaks or TR was a faff, then I discovered the podcast and man what a great listen, I keep learning so much, which made me decide to switch a couple of weeks back, have been off the bike for various reasons but about to start using TR and can’t wait for the gainzzz!
I agree with you that the having something engaging in front of you helps to get through the tough workouts. The problem is that this is very personal and would require a lot of resources in my opinion to have any value for a diverse user base.
I personally make music playlists or put some cycling videos on the screen to remind me why I am sitting on the trainer. Other times I watch the “Ask a cycling coach podcast”.
I would rather deal with these matters myself than have the team at TR have to pull resources off their existing road map.
I think that would be great and well for people like us who like the numbers and techinical stuff. Just making a suggestion so TR would have somewhat of an appeal to cycling newbies. Because most progressions would be Zwift ----> TR or Sufferfest -----> TR mostly when the newbies become more serious with training or the transition never happens if they remain casual… Just trying to help because I like that trainerroad can take the place of a real cycling coach. If just a little bit of engagement is added it would be perfect better to add it now because those other products are trying to better their structured plans.
The ability to auto push a workout to Zwift would be great. Open up Z and your workout is ready to use. Training Peaks and Todays Plan can do it
This way TR hasn’t tried to provide an entertainment solution, they have just made it a bit easier to use Z if that is your preference
I would love this - plus, we might be wearing a TrainerRoad kit in Zwift!
One thing I would love to see would be to allow forum users to view other user’s workouts to provide feedback on the results. If I wanted advice on lets say when I should ride hard and when I should ride easy, it would be awesome if other members could view my ride calendar and provide me feedback. This is probably the only “social” aspect I want in TR.
If your TR account is Public, you can share your Career directly via a link to the forum as a whole, or any specific user. It is not “automatic” access, but when Public, your rides, career and everything in there is visible to any one with the link to the related page.
For example, here is mine: - TrainerRoad
Very cool, can you see mine?
Yes, sir. Full access to your rides and career.
Fantastic, this will be great for getting feedback!
100% to everything.
i am pretty surprised that people still use facebook these days. seriously.
What would be nice Chad is if there would be a way to add people you want to follow. I search in the teams area sometimes to get some ideas how to make some of my own plans to change it up but something like this would be nice. Just something simple.
Yeah, I think there are ways they could improve the community aspect in the app. They’ve mentioned that the ‘Team’ function is something that they want to review and improve. Maybe it can become something for more open use.
“Pre-set” training plans are so 2015.
They are either suboptimal before you start them or suboptimal after your first week.
2015 ![]()
More like 1915. People have been training with pre-set plans since the beginning of training. And some did really well with them and won quite a few things.
Too many people on here are chasing the 0.5% before dealing with the 50%.
