LOL… this reminds me so much of USTA adult tennis leagues.

USTA leagues were the worst. The ‘good’ captains would manage their roster to keep people from promoting and scout out people that hadn’t been rated but could over perform. Getting bagled without winning a rally is sooo fun.

Yep, people managing their NTRP, hiding their sand-bagging single players by having them tank games and sets on the #3 doubles court then come out and crush at #1 singles the following week.
Guys who had no business playing 4.0 tennis but they didn’t want to lose at 4.5… former college players self-rating and tanking enough games to make it look competitive. SMH…
USTA tennis captains are a special breed for sure…

Every time I think about picking up a racquet again, I read stuff like this and have flashbacks and go work on my bike instead.

I’m Sunday social tennis only (well maybe post covid).
Last straw was holding adult districts during the day in the middle of summer in 100 degree weather and 100% humidity. You either waited all day as your matches were canceled due to rain or nearly had a heat stroke while playing.
