Unbound Gravel 2022

In an interview he said he was solo for last 170k after a flat. I suppose he could have been with someone coming out of the feed zone. I was just thinking that with his more dialed setup, road race skinsuit, and no camelback and the rest he could have a substantial aero advantage on me. The power difference just seemed larger than I would expect.

The wind could have been different, or, on gravel, just taking a different line can have a pretty big impact. Was it muddy on that section? I donā€™t think you can read that much into just a power number.

I watched an interview with him recently where he mentioned he has really learned a lot about watt saving changes to make on the bike, positioning etc and that has renewed his interest in competing in TT again as he hadnā€™t bothered with a lot of these marginal gains things in the past.

Thanks! For Rhomboid Hell are you using a incline bench face down? Thats how I saw the batwing row demonstrated.

Yeah, it should be like only one notch above parallel to the ground. Split the difference between incline bench and regular bench. If youā€™re doing it right, a really low weight is gonna feel awful. I have to use little plates because the gymā€™s dumbbells donā€™t go down that low.

I guess I should add that my warm-ups are 3x10, compounds are 5x5 (not including warm-up sets), accessories are 3x8-12, and core is 3x10-15. Iā€™ll typically powerset accessory and core. So on DL day Iā€™ll take the kettlebell for Romanians over to the GHR machine and alternate exercises. Trying to get done in < 1 hr. Once my ACLR issue is rehabbed Iā€™ll probably swap out the two press/row days with clean & jerk and snatch. I donā€™t think olympic lifts are better for cycling, but they are certainly more fun. Someone like Dylan Johnson would skip upper body stuff because itā€™s mostly useless weight. Even if I went that route, Iā€™d still keep rows for back to deal with the adverse effects of being hunched over the bars.

Sweet recap from Jeremiah Bishop. Put a lot of extra work into carrying a go pro around!

Finally getting around to cleaning up my bike! Flew to Bora Bora the Tuesday after the race, and was completely off the bike for 14 days. Was already planning to replace pretty much everything as all my drivetrain stuff had 7000mi of use. Did not really expect to need new BB bearings, but my cranks were barely spinning at all. Just pulled them and found both sides of BB to be completely packed with mud! Also a solid amount of frame damage behind the cranks as well. Mud is the worst!

If I ride an e-bike I might be able to keep pace.

All the talk about tire clearance for mud totally ignores the fact that there is no frame with much clearance between the chainring and the chain stay.

The Allied Able and its elevated drive-side chainstay is about the best option if that is the concern. There may be more models with that ā€œold schoolā€ feature that I havenā€™t seen.
