Try Plan Builder new "Ad" is kinda annoying

Works great :pray:t2:

I used Plan Builder today because of this thread…

Thanks for taking the time to reply and explain the challenges.

Just saw this, I’ll talk to marketing tomorrow.

That could be a great idea. Maybe a ‘promoted topic’ that links to a blog post and allows / prompts users to chime in for discussion.

Count me as one subscriber who never knew it existed till I saw an ad.

I think it’s a complete non-issue personally. Takes less than a second to scroll past it, I don’t feel it’s annoying at all. Although I could see how more adverts could clog up threads.

Thanks for jumping in. I’m not overly turned off by the ad, and I’m normally pretty sensitive to advertising.

I just wanted to comment on the plan builder. I’m, I suppose, what you would call philosophically opposed to it. Computers and software are great and all…but in my experience they cant be trusted with any real level of confidence. Sometimes they work…sometimes they dont. They work when they fee like it, and theres no rhyme or reason to it (unless, I’m sure…you’re someone with a degree in computer science and spends 40hrs a week figuring this stuff out). Regardless…I trust the plans themselves, because I am confident that Chad or another coach has designed and reviewed them. I have no such confidence on the Planbuilder.

I’ll happily forego a bit of individualism from the planbuilder in order to be confident an entire years worth of training wasnt the product of some colossal software f$&@up that I would never be able to identify, let alone fix.

Sorry for the rant :joy:

Would you have more confidence if you realised that @chad helped to design what the plan builder outputs?

It’s not just a random suggestion, but based on criteria set out by him & other coaches.

Since I’m already a subscriber and know about Plan Builder, I hope I am justified in making a uBlock rule that excises the ads from the forum. Makes the threads much prettier.

No, not at all. I dont really have any qualms with the the training philosophy that was used to design the system; I’m aware that Chad had input on the system. It’s a matter of trusting the software to “think” and execute Chads thoughts properly. I dont need to trust the software beyond the most basic level of just not crashing…Chad literally wrote down what he wants each workout in each plan to do at what wattage. Much more is left to the imagination of the software when using planbuilder.

Edit: actually on a second reading…perhaps I misread your question. If after the plan builder creates a plan, Chad were to review MY plan specifically before the trainerroad software spits it out for me…then sure of course I would trust it. I kinda doubt that’s how it works though haha.

Yeah, I don’t think he reviews your plan specifically but within the parameters of how much you train, how long you have until a key event etc, he will have some rules around how your plan is built - and that’s the output.

At the moment it’s a pretty simple algorithm without much margin for throwing out a strangely constructed plan.

We’ve got some ideas on how to make this less obtrusive.

We may make this only for non-logged in users. We are probably going to remove it from the feed.

The person who’s doing this is out, so we’ll wait for them to get back.

It doesn’t show up for me (non subscriber).

I think it should only show up for subscribers. To make sure you are fully utilizing your subscription.

It actually seems to be if your pref is set for darkmode it doesn’t show. Shhh.

I wondered why I’d not seen it, this explains all :joy:

From a slightly different angle, one thing I thought of is to set it up (don’t know how easy this would be) so that whenever people ask on the forum about plan modifications or how to structure their training and don’t mention plan builder in their post, they get an auto-answer that is basically “What does plan builder say you should do?”
