TREK Checkpoint?

Loved my SL6 eTap, until I rode my Crux… made the Checkpoint feel incredibly sluggish in comparison.

Sluggish is fine, I’ve got a Tarmac SL7 and welcome a little comfort on longer mixed terrain rides!

Got this far before Wed night ride

Still need to put the 10-44 cassette on the Terra wheels, redo the front tape, and put on some tires.

Good enough to ride with the stock wheels and S-Works Pathfinders, but now it’s starting to rain :umbrella:

Perfect conditions to get it broken in…

Nice bike, I’ve got same color and the Rival AXS (all the AXS stuff is just great IMO). Easy swap to an eagle RD and 10-52 if you ever want to run the mullet setup. I think my Madone has about 500 miles on it in the last year, the Checkpoint is my everything bike these days.

I’ve got a fit tomorrow at noon, so it’s time to spend 3 hours wrenching. The near future holds plenty of opportunities to get wet!

Nice ride! Last I checked in on mine it was being run as a pseudo Singletrack/CX bike with 50s on it. This picture was taken just before I sold it.

I’m mostly planning to use it for easy, more upright training rides. And base training in the foothills on dirt/gravel roads. I’ve done a lot of that on the Tarmac with 32s, so running 42s is almost overkill but will raise speeds on descents.

It may have been answered earlier in the thread, but do you happen to know the weight difference between the alu and SL frames? I’m guessing it’s not a lot.

There is one weird, but known, issue I haven’t seen much posted on with the Checkpoint SLR. Their is a slight alignment issue with the brakepads and rotors, where a small part of the brake pad doesn’t make contact with rotor. As your pads wear it is really noticeable. The lead mechanic at my local Trek shop says he is seeing it on SLRs and apparently Trek knows about the issue. Doesn’t really impact things riding but thought I’d post here about it.

@Kuttermax - Same issue here. Seems a bit odd and simply a problem with the facing of the mount. Thought maybe i was the only one.

Othwerwise the SLR has been a great bike on and off road.

Same weight - high end AL vs low end carbon with features. The framesets and the full 5-series bikes weigh the same.

The carbon bike has a slightly lighter carbon steerer on the fork and has more features .

speaking of rain, any opinions on fenders that are:

  • easy to install and remove
  • cheaper than Bontrager fenders

My LBS buddy suggested AssSaver/Blender, but I wanted a little more coverage for 35c GP5K AllSeasons or 42c S-Works Pathfinders. Some options he texted:

and

and

all 3 options are for tires up to 47mm width (measured).

You can thank me later…

Thx, I’ve lost count on the number of beers I owe you…

I have kept a full and accurate tab…

SKS s-Blade rear only. Near perfect. Installs in seconds. Thick carbon bikes don’t need full fenders, cuz they thiccc. Used in spring classics by pros.
I’ve got one on my Checkpoint right now. #NoBidetSpray

2022 Checkpoint SL6, size 58cm

Fully loaded except for water bottles

Weighs 21.1lbs / 9.6kg loaded with my standard road / light gravel setup:

  • internal bag has CO2, valve, tire levers, and spare Bontrager butyl 35-44 tube (48mm presta)
  • K-Edge mount with Garmin 840 and Niterider light
  • Garmin Varia radar
  • two water bottle cages
  • Roval Terra CLX with S-Works Pathfinder tires (42c)
  • Selle SMP Drakon saddle
  • SRAM Rival XPLR group set 40T crank and 10-44 cassette
  • Garmin RS200 power meter pedals

Looks great. Enjoy!

And the stock wheels with 35c GP5000 All Season TR tires.

22.6 lbs / 10.3kg

The stock wheels weigh a full pound more than the Rovals?!?!?

Yikes.

Exactly.

But it’s for training on pancake flat roads. I did two hours this morning on the S-Works Pathfinders, they roll pretty nice.
