Tracking Tire Wear

My first GP5000TL lasted an insane 4-5000 miles - a full year. I don’t know why. My 2nd and 3rd GP5000TL lasted around 2,500 miles. These are all rears. I’m still on my original front tire. I’m too lazy to rotate.

I used to use GP 4000s and 3000s until they squared off. The GP5000TL doesn’t seem to square off. Both times I reached the casing and was surprised. I never look at the wear markers. How many miles do people get if they go by the wear markers?

@AJS914 I go by wear markers and on my rear clincher GP 5000 I get about 2,300.

Rider weight is definitely a factor.

Heavier rider, greater tire wear.

I get insane mileage out of 5000s. I’m light at 61Kg.

9,000kms on rear
11,000kms on front

I change them more frequently than this now, just for added safety and puncture protection etc.

I got about 5000 miles on my last GP5000 (32mm rear) and my front 28mm is now over 6000 miles. That said, I try to keep things moderate, avoiding hard accelerations and trying to keep braking smooth, rather than hard. If I was racing crits, I don’t think the tires would last that long.

Not only does the rear have more weight, but the surface patch is under constant tension (when pedalling, at least).
