Unless your outdoor rides are really infrequent surely you’d already have an idea if they needed pumping?
Obviously people have a different view than you on this…
But for me, that 30-60s to check and pump tires is worth it for those few times when you pumped them up yesterday but for whatever reason they are lower than expected today. Maybe you didn’t tighten the valve stem all the way, maybe you hit a tiny piece of glass, etc, etc.
It’s just completely worth it to me to catch those things and to have complete peace of mind that when I leave the house for every ride that I have my tires pumped up properly.
Just like I check the weather again before every ride even though I looked at it yesterday. Sometimes things change and I want to make sure I’m on top of it instead of being caught out 10 miles from home freezing my butt off because the wind shifted weird and now it’s 10deg colder than forecasted or that rain that was supposed to miss me is now going to hit.
I couldn’t agree more. My gravel bike is currently set up with IRC Boken Plus and orange seal endurance. I can literally go 2-3 months without touching the tire and the pressure and sealant remain the same. My road bike on the other hand has the same sealant, but Vittoria Corsa Pro TLR.
I need to check the pressure a couple times a week. I chalk it up to the cotton sidewalls. They just don’t hold air as well as the indestructible IRC.
Unless you are tubeless
Im tubeless and Ive not had a setup where longterm I have had to check exact pressure every ride; a quick thumb check suffices, if you’ve topped it up a few days beforehand.
That’s fair. I only get outside on the weekends so by then I have to put a decent amount in.
I’ve found on my bikes with tubeless tyres that Schwalbe Pro Ones with Stans Race sealant hold pressure just fine for a few weeks. I certainly don’t need to pump then up more than butyl inner tubes tyres.
That’s pretty good. I’m using Stan’s regular sealant with GP5000. I get a couple days but not at the pressure I put it at. They were set up at a shop too.
A bit OT from me but I am thinking about mixing Stans Race and Stans Regular. Using Stans Race for sealing any micro pores or slight rim tape imperfections etc (its good for setting up good and reliable air tight setup IME) but using the Stans regular to top up as its smoother there
