What I understand is it’s the very upper end of conventional Z2. On TR it looks likes the harder Z2 or the easier tempo fits the bill.
What you’re quoting did not support your earlier statement about z2 being superior to other zones for development of mlss or refute what i said, so I’m not sure what your point is any more. You’ve also misquoted the article, as that study they worked between 80 and 150% of vo2max, and performance was measured in a 40k tt.
But, to the op’s question… doing that endurance only block so close to your event may be missing out and you may lose some specificity for your event.
What I’m quoting is from the article you linked. It wasn’t an attempt to refute anything and why would it be.
If you want to minimise the rise in lactate in the blood you need to maximally develop your slow twitch fibres to rapidly take it up. Or do you disagree with this?
