Surprised the pricing seems “normal”
John tested them very fast in 55mm. Saw that on his IG, couldn’t find the post anymore.
I guess since they have a 32" model it’s not Panaracer which is good. So probably Vittoria?
$99/tire they have some high standards to meet. Hopefully they hit BRR and John Karrasch releases his testing the next few months and we’ll know how they stack up going into next season.
Very interested in the RCG-4 as wet/mud tires in gravel size are lacking.

13 different SKU’s on release. That’s a crazy amount of different products for a company like Silca.
When are the mountain bike tires coming? 
Looks like Drew Dillman was on a set for Leadville. And his race post says he “flatted a few times” coming down Columbine?? Not the best first impression for the new tires. Could be bad luck, could be the tires, could be that Drew is a bad mtber, who knows? Then again, why was he using gravel tires at Leadville?
John has posted stuff in the EC discord. The 55mm RCG-1 version has a lower RR than either width of Thunder Burts on Cat 2 gravel. G One Speed 29 x 2.35 is slightly faster
Pricing seems in line with a lot of other tires in this range. Plus Silca runs sales a lot…

The road tire sizing is a bit wacky. 29,34,38
I’d love to see inflated sizes on a 24mm internal rim for each of those. Bikes with claimed 32mm clearance might have a shot at running the 34mm which would be awesome.

I watched the Silca launch video and they talked specifically about their sizing standards. The size is based on being mounted to a 25mm internal rim pumped up to the max listed pressure on the sidewall 24 hours after being mounted (to allow for the initial stretch). Nice that they have a standard being published rather than the arbitrary sizing of other brands that can often differ from one model tire to another (even within the brand). The road tire sizes look reasonable to me, seems like 29 and 34 cover the current mainstream thinking and the 38 is an interesting option for endurance or all road use. I was thinking about getting some Schwalbe 40’s for my crux for road use, I may consider these 38’s if the initial reviews are good.

If i’m understanding - they are basing the labeled measured size based on the actual measured width under the conditions you mentioned?
So if i measure the tightest clearance of my frame and decide a 34mm inflated tire will fit, thats what I can expect from the 34? They’ve somehow solved the guessing game and added another factor of ‘how is this width calculated’ every time you purchase tires.
Realistically, I just need a comparison to gp5000str to make an informed decision.
They are going to sell a ton of tires. Silca tends to do their homework so they will likely perform well out of the box. Getting lots of folks out on them is going to help answer questions related to durability.
The road 38 is a great move. Conti filled a gap with the 35 GP5000 STR this season and the Silca 38 will be a great option for the bikes with 38 - 40mm clearance like the Domane. This could be a great tire for areas where the roads can get a bit chopped up. Perfect tire for the East Maui Loop.
DJs take that with the gravel tires the RCG-1 = ThunderBurt replacement and the RCG-3 = Race King replacement makes for a simple equation.
I am curious to hear what Drew ran for Leadville. His plan was Race Kings, so if he did pivot to the new Silca tires, was is the RCG-3 in 55?
I’m kind of disappointed to see they don’t have something with some tread at 37-40mm for my Domane. I guess one of these days I’m going to have buy a real gravel bike.
G One RS Pro in 40 is still a good option if you want a little tread.
I found it interesting Josh / Silca are vocally against hookless yet DJ has a wheel sponsor (Enve) that is hookless. Just an interesting dynamic. Also found it interesting they used 25mm internal to measure. Overall, would love to hear what Josh/Silca think about these huge wide gravel wheels nowadays. Regardless excited to try the road and gravel tires once my Schwalbes wear out!

Maybe, but he used a gravel tire on a mountain bike at a claimed MTB race where he admitted to be a rough spot and the tires were under inflated. So, not sure I’d call that an appropriate execution.

I don’t read much into one person getting flats on one day. Once the tire get out there in wide use it’ll quickly be apparent if there are any issues with puncture protection.
