I came close to ordering my road bike with Erkar, too. The versatility and gearing would have been great. And I for sure would not have said no to another climbing gear.
However, if you want 500ish % range, I think the type of terrain you’d be riding is much close to that of a mountain bike where the larger gaps between gears don’t matter so much as the terrain is usually much more variable anyway.
