Rule28 gravel skin suit

Good suggestion - may be that easy. I know sometimes those hose connections can be finicky.

Looking at the pictures of Dylan wearing it on the site, it appears he may have a magnet attached near his neck line. I’m going to give that a shot first as I have a magnet on my pack. Doesn’t seem the most secure attached to the neck line, however I tried it not wearing it, so it may be fine.

Yeah, I need to look at options to secure the hose…I have a magnet clip but, as you note w/ Dylan’s pic, there are limited options to hold one half of the clip (pretty much just the neckline).

I may just resort to an old-school CamelBak hose clamp that I can just stick anywhere on the suit.

Wonder where you get a magnet for the bladder

Here are the pictures of the magnet from my hydration pack. The magnets appear to be “osprey” brand, which matches the pack.

Once I get the gravel suit back on tomorrow I’ll get a better idea of how secure it feels. If it doesn’t feel pretty rock solid, I’ll use my wife’s smaller hydration bladder with the short hose most likely. Having that long hose dangling would be incredibly annoying.

This clip looks a good chunk better than mine:

I used a Tactical Source magnetic clip last year and it was great….but with the gravel suit, the only place to attach one end is gonna be the neckline and I don’t think I would want the hose end there.

So I’ll probably go with something like this that I can just clip anywhere on the suit.

I tried it on with the clip I have and it feels sufficient for tomorrows ride as long as I’m not stupid about taking it off and back on. I don’t know that there’s a much better place to put it than the neck line. The USWE clip looks more robust but not sure how tight it’ll be.

I’d be a bit nervous with the fabric and that clip you posted. The material is definitely a good amount thinner than much of my other cycling gear.

Looks like Dylan’s attachment is a bit similar to the one I currently have:

Yeah, I’ll likely do a clip like this one, which is plastic.

But I’ll try my magnetic clip as well and see if it works.

I’m happy with the skin suit.

The new socks fell down with in 10min on the trainer.

Get bigger calves. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

They are very large already

I’ve found that a little stubble keeps those socks up. Runner calves checking in.

I am currently unshaved

Get smaller socks.

Seriously, though….KT Tape makes a spray-on sticky spray. Give that a shot and see if it helps. I used to use it a lot for trying to get the KT Tape to last longer….it is definitely sticky.

Hairspray has worked very well for me to keep the aero socks up.

I use mueller spray adhesive and it keeps the socks up super well. Sticks on for a few days though lol. That being said, it does contain benzyne, which I’m a bit iffy about spraying on my skin.

Took the new gravel suit out for the first time today. Did my first solo century as well, so certainly couldn’t have been too bad!

A few things:

  • very comfortable. Medium fits me well. I did notice at about 75 miles in it was rubbing at the back of my leg right above my knee where that tendon is. I pulled the shorts up a bit and it was slightly better.
  • I carried a 2.5L bladder. Comfortable but can definitely be felt around the neck line
  • The chamois felt pretty good. The only other bibs I’ve ever worn are pearl izumi expedition bibs. The rule 28 chamois felt a bit more solid which actually seemed more comfortable.
  • in terms of the discussion on gauging how much you’re drinking from the bladder, will definitely take some trial and error. The 2.5L should’ve been gone at around 3.5ish hrs. In the bladder I had 900 calories (was also eating 100-150 calories every hr). Although I was taking 4-5 “drinks” every 10-15 minutes, it was still pretty dang slow to drink. I needed some caffeine which was in my bottles, and those I can spray in super fast. So I supplemented the bladder with a bottle and finished both at around 4 hrs 15 mins, which was about on par. I think this is probably the best method.
  • the little magnet I showed in a previous post worked pretty good on my neck line. I had to be a little conservative in pulling it off to make sure I didn’t pull the clip out, but for the ride duration I had no issues.

Lastly, the UV protection seemed sufficient. Had some burn on my neck and arms, but everywhere that the suit was at was not burnt.

Anyways, long winded, but there’s my full review.

Was finally able to get out and ride in the gravel suit today….low-70’s arrived in the Chicago area and I played hooky from work to get a long ride in.

First, the fit is great. Ordered a S and I have zero complaints with the fit or comfort (5’9”, 155lbs). No base layer, just the suit and i was very comfortable, although my wife was a bit horrified by the see-through aspects of the white top.

Bladder pocket worked great, but I also only put ~1L in the bladder. I was only going for 3 hours and didn’t need more than that (had bottles of regular water on the bike, plus gels). You definitely need someone to help get the bladder in, though.

Biggest issue is I need to find a better option to secure the end of the hose. I had a magnet mount that attached to the neckline of the suit and another magnet on the hose. Very secure, but the clip rested right on my collarbone and was just annoying the whole time.

Even if the base wasn’t resting right on my collarbone, it was very high on the suit and right below my chin. I just didn’t like it sitting that high up. But my earlier idea of using an old-school clip style attachment from first-gen hydration packs won’t work either because the suit it too tight for a clip to easily grab. My current thought is to have a seamstress sew the magnetic base into the suit top with a piece of white Lycra and then just attach the magnet through the suit. Any other ideas appreciated!

Pockets were easy to access…nice and low.

Overall, I really like the suit….just need to figure out how to secure the hose end.

One additional thought….I’ll definitely use an insulated bladder most time I use the suit. With the thin material of the bladder sitting right against your back, your body warms your liquids pretty quickly.

Let us know about the magnet holding thingy
