Road Wheels for gravel tires?

I am looking at wheels for my gravel bike. (Crux 2021). I currently have the stalk wheels on at 25mm internal rim width. Heck, most road wheels are the same width. If I go with the No.6 I will get an even wider front wheel. Is there anything inherently wrong with a road wheel on a gravel tire for a gravel bike. I’m gonna be mounting 45mm plus tires so unless the stiffness difference is extreme that’s not a issue.

The approved combinations are outlined here:

What about just like general ride feel? Do they mess up the wheels? I’m more worried that they do something special like different ride feel, or just are simply less durable. Thoughts? I run carbon spokes on my road bike just fine. So im not sure if that would be an issue.

IMO, no there is no issue. My original set that I used for 2 years were a shallow pair of carbon road wheels, and actually my new set are technically road wheels as well.

It’s just that the newer really wide internal width are marketed as gravel wheels.

Good to know. I am looking at the No.6 45/50. Seem wide enough. Just worried cause they are not a “gravel” wheelset

I initially bought reserve 40|44 gravel wheels for gravel duty. I bought a 2nd wheel set primarily for road - Reserve 42|49. The internal width is about 2mm less (25 vs 27).

For races, I mount a second set of gravel tires on the race wheels for backup or if there’s mud and I need clearance. I’ve found that I can tell no difference between these two wheel sets (love them both).

Great to know. The Reserve 55/ 60 look fast. Maybe I look into them. I don’t recon 2m internal will make that much difference.
