Road Bike Posture

Only time for a quick skim now, but that largely matches my take for very “performance” oriented fits. This can and does vary a bit when we look at more “comfort” focused fits seen by many “non-racers” in my area at least.

Performance is all I’m interested in, so that works for me :stuck_out_tongue: thank you!

Yup…that is a decent summary of how to rotate your hips.

But I don’t buy the 30w gains claimed by the ST poster…who, IIRC, was a bit a of jerk on the forum (to be polite)

LOL, gotta love WAG power claims like that. I take all that stuff with more than a healthy dose of skepticism. Unless you are fixing something really off (which can likely be solved in more than a singular way), there is unlikely to be anything close to that stark of a change in fit stuff like this.

The 30 seems high, no doubt. I absolutely agree it’s a guess and I don’t think you magically get set on the saddle correctly and suddenly 30 extra watts are there.

From my n=1, as someone who used to ride a 70.3 at 2:09-2:13 over and over again and have watched that deteriorate due to discomfort issues in training and racing, I can say my power/hr is above where it was before I noticed the deterioration noted.

So no, I don’t think 30w is right, but over the course of a year riding without discomfort then it might be more reasonable depending on how poor the fit was.

Either way, I absolutely agree with all comments surrounding open hip angles

Nice! Its rare for me to tell people one of the most expensive products in a certain market is worth it, but in this case I have no problem doing so (I still cringe when my wife brings home lululemon pants for me to wear).

yeah I mean I am happy to support innovation…especially US made…especially small shop made

He’s at least trying to make a great product first and sell second (rather than the other way around). can’t go wrong with the guarantee and warranty.

it’s a no-lose if the $ isn’t a huge burden and your saddle is an issue for you.

Have you ever tried Selle SMP saddle? Not Selle Italia, that’s a different company.

I’ve had a Drakon for 8 years, my fitter recommended for all the reasons in this thread. I’ve tried the Specialized body geo saddles with cutout, no thank you. A Colby Pearce podcast was posted, from his website it appears he is a fan of Selle SMP.

The EscapeCollective article on Wove mentioned Selle SMP. And some comment about aesthetics of a nose down saddle. I’ve got mine at least -5 degrees. Not making any power claims but I have no issues putting out big 10 mile TT power on Selle SMP Drakon when I rotate hips and get aero. No saddle sores, no chamois cream, the saddle just disappears under me.

Good video from road cycling academy. Title is about aero potential but Neil discusses rotating hips and upper back posture. He states he’ll have a part 2 to demonstrate some methods to improve these issues. I’m guessing some stuff he’s covered previously.

For me, at times, especially sitting upright on bike I’ll get that posterior tilt if I’m not careful. Sometimes I’ll go into the drops and actively think about rotating my hips then move back to the hips keeping my hips rotated.

Likely working on my flexibility has helped but I still have to sometimes think about making sure my hips are rotated forward but not in an exaggerated way

I was about to post the link. I know on the MTB, I’m at 3degrees nose down on my Ergon SM saddle. I’m also on 175 cranks and via Retul, I’m a little further forward of the knee over spindle.

I’m not changing it, because so far the feelings I’m getting are very positive. My fitter even said, this makes him think we need to go back to the gravel bike and move it more forward and a little more tilt.

He mentions other saddles in the Podcast, so I don’t think it was an advertisement for his saddles personally.
He talks a lot about positional changes and I think we’ve all seen this in the pro peloton.

More saddle tilt, longer stems and getting more aero.
