Pro Crit Bike? What would yall build if money is not a problem and no crash worries

Just was pondering, and wanted y’all thoughts.

Iff money is no object, what would y’all build as a Crit bike? Basically what would y’all build up/ what do you want in a Crit bike? Do you go with something stable while flying around a corner? Or something stiff as a board?

I would start with a Old Venge 2020 frame. But 1 size smaller then normal. Smaller, so that I can whip it around the crit faster and weave in-between people.
Reserve 40/44 Gravel wheels for the wide rim depth. Perllie P Zero Race tire’s in a size 30mm. (Yes they fit. Not recommended but owell"
Shimano 1x drivetrain. a 11-23 (11 speed) Vision cassette. 54t Chainring from Aulger.
Any ol 1 pice handel bar is cool by me. 38cm wide. 140mm long.
Curious what yall come up with. I personally would want something small under me but stiff.

I’d agree with 1×, especially for a flat crit. Since there’s no FD, I’d pay for someone to make custom cranks 10mm shorter than usual with a super narrow Q-factor (something around 130mm, with the chainring almost all the way out against the cranks), just to take pedal strike out of the equation, especially in the awesome & crazy setting of racing around indoor go-kart tracks. Or on roads with a sharp crown. Dial in pedal Q-factor with cleat positioning. 130mm BCD for less chainring flex than 110.

Speedplay also helped with pedal strike clearance and double sided does help with a fast getaway.
1x would be great. Big stiff aero chainring.
I never got to race on an aero frame but that would be my choice. Even cat 3/4s are averaging around 27 to 28+ mph now.
Think I’d go for a larger rear tyre like 30 or 32 mm but keep the front around 25 to 28 mm.
Could use short cranks and low bb height to get a really nice low COG and still have pedal clearance.
I’d also have a spare set of wheels with big soft wet weather tyres (if they actually make a difference). Something BRR has tested on their wet grip test. I’ve only ever used gp4000 and gp5000 so not sure if they actually make a difference but I have raced in the wet a lot and never enjoyed it.

I would make sure it had at least 50mm tire clearance and UDH. Internal storage would be a plus.

That way when I realized crits were dead, I would still have a gravel race bike :face_blowing_a_kiss:

My race category fields over this past weekend were: 112, 120, 187. I don’t think crits are dying in the slightest. That’s one field.

Money no object: Colnago Y1Rs. Just think it looks sweet. The Simplon Pride is doing well for the DCC guys, a few wins over Memorial Day weekend. Canyon Aeroad or Scott Foil RC are also on my list. No idea how any of those bikes ride though. I have a SuperSix Evo and I’m happy with it. Really comfortable, pretty aero. And I can fit 36-37mm tires. I run 2x because it’s my only bike, but crit only I’d do 1x. I ran AluGear 1x chainrings and liked them.

Good idea. I wouldn’t run anything shorter than 165. (6’1) but yeah. Something a little on the shorter end. Small q factor too, so no garmin pedals.
