Power Meter recommendation

Hi all, I would like to know what would be the best power meter option using a Sram Xplr AXS (Force E1) setup? I was looking at the current option:

  • Sram Force Left Side only PM - cheapest at around 300CAD
  • Sram Red Xplr AXS E1 Spider PM - Around 550CAD
  • Favero Assioma Mx1 -Mx2 - 560 CAD for left side only or 880 CAD for 2-sided PM

Is there any other option like Sigeyi or XCadey that could also work? I would like to stay under 500CAD.

Thanks everyone!

I would either get SRAM’s Quarq DZero, its spider-based power meter, or dual-sided Assiomas. One-sided vs. dual-sided makes a difference in my experience as my left/right balance varies quite a bit.

I have a Quarq DZero on my Force AXS D1, which is the same tech as the current version, and it has been flawless. From all I have heard, Assiomas have a deserved reputation for being bulletproof, too. If I were in your shoes, the deciding factor would be whether I needed power on more than one bike.

I have the Left side SRAM on my gravel bike and the dual assiomas that I switch from MTB to road bike. They have all been flawless. I am glad to have the gravel bike set up so that I do not have to switch pedals every ride. That is the only downfall of the pedals too me ( a little cost). They can be put on any bike though. I have no issues using the left only. My last race I was able to put out exactly my ftp in normalized power for exactly 1 hour ( then it dropped some). So here is my non answer

I’m a massive fan of Favero - but those SRAM left sided crank PMs are such good value at the moment.

Especially as you can probably reclaim a bit of money by selling your original left crank arm.

Why not the cheaper Force version?

I was under the impression that only the Red level existed for a 1x setup but I may be wrong on this.

I’m a Quarq/ Sram fan, been using them for year and they been good so far. i have three of them.
I got a pair of Favero of the MTB while they where having a sale. So far I have no complain. Even better now after an update that gave them more battery life.
I had a Stages left crank arm PM back in 2016 and while they worked after having years of data from using the Quarq PM, whenever I finish a ride with the Stages the data just looks weird to me. This was before they came out with the dual sided PM.
I agree with others here, I would stay away from single sided if you can.

I thought the power meter spider for <= 46T chain rings was neither Force nor Red, but can only fit cranks with an 8-bolt design, i. e. Force and Red cranks.

Only the big aero chain rings with integrated power meter (are they still a thing with the E1 gen?) are branded Red.

The dual sided Quarq spider is super solid and will serve you well. I have run Quarq for years on multiple gravel and XC bikes and very consistent and reliable.

That being said having a set of power pedals can be really convenient, especially if you have multiple bikes and dont want to invest in power meters for each. They are also handy if you travel and rent a bike.

SRAM has 2 different part numbers for the threaded spider-based power meter. One is branded as Red XPLR for 1x drivetrains, the other is branded Force for 2x drivetrains. They are identical other than the snap-on battery cover. And obviously, they charge more for the Red. The description for the Force version says it’s designed for 2x drivetrains, but that is just SRAM marketing attempting to keep gravel and road groupsets in their own lanes. I confirmed this with SRAM tech support before buying the cheaper force version for my 1x gravel bike. Same thing, $165 cheaper.

Thanks, I reached out to Sram support this morning and they told me the same thing.

I have a few PMs ATM: Quarq DZero spider, Sigeyi Spider, Assioma Duos. They’re all within a few W of each other and compare well to my smart trainer. My avg L/R balance varies from ride to ride so I suggest double-sided/total power rather than left only. The Quarq is my newest, and like that is uses a CR 2032 instead of being rechargeable.

I stand corrected.
This is beyond stupid. :man_facepalming:

My Rotor 2InSpider has a rechargeable battery, as does my new Tickr heart rate monitor. Philosophically, I prefer that to CR2032s. Effectively, the battery lasts the lifetime of the device as it goes through so little charge cycles.

I have the XO Spindle PM on my trail bike and the Quarq threaded chainring spider on my XC and Gravel bike. I much prefer the Quarq spider over the one sided spindle based. I had to warranty the spindle based PM as it was all over the place for power. The second one seems fairly accurate but I trust the spider based one more and it also seems much quicker to respond to changes in power. I am not as concerned as my Trail Bike is my fun bike park / play bike but if I find I used Quarq spider I likely will replace it.

I’m getting the left side force 1 for my new bike. i don’t need dual power.

Having just found installed on a new bike my third spindle base sram power meter I can tell you NOT to use it. They are frustrating. They go crazy all the time. You won’t even notice if you don’t have a second one with you. I had them on with the trainer all the winter and so I kept an eye on the value my Karoo said compared to the trainer, and they literally start wondering up and down. I tried them with favero single sided and it confirmed that they are worthless.

Yeah SRAM makes 3 different power meter spiders these days and they’re all completely interchangeable, same PM with different trim. (RED, Force, XX SL). I’m running the Force power meter on my mountain bike’s GX crankset with a MTB chainring, soley because it was what was available at a retailer I had a bunch of store credit to.

I have a SRAM spindle power meter on my trail bike and have no real complaints with it, but I’m too anal to run left only power on my XC/Road bikes.
