One bike for the rest of your life

Taken from Weightweenies. One simple question. A genie grants you the wish of picking one single bike from all of history, just say the name and it pops out of thin air and all your other bikes are gone. One bike to ride for the rest of you life. What bike are you picking? It’s fairly easy for me as I don’t ride MTBs, so it’s a road bike for sure. The only caveat I will grant you is that you are allowed multiple wheelsets. But only one frameset/bike, no exceptions.

Passoni custom titanium road frame, clearance for 32mm tyres, Chris King headset and BB, dura ace, Cadex Ultra 50 wheels. It’s going to need to last another 30-40 years at least (I hope!) so titanium is the material to go for.

All City Nature Boy Disc 853, green/white fade. Sweetest riding bike I’ve ever owned.

For road would be a Custom Painted S-Works Specialized Tarmac SL7. Wheels and groupo’s to cover road and gravel.

Ugh, I’d rather just quit the sport.

Allroad/Gravelbike with two wheelsets is all I really need.

ENVE Melee?

I mean, seems like the best bike that can still run gravel-ish tyres?

Really haven’t ridden that many bikes. I’d be tempted to ask for the black and gold Raleigh BMX I wanted in the 1980s, or the one I had stolen from me when I was 10yo.

But as it’s my only bike I’d probably choose the lightest rim brake Emonda, red obvs, and ride it without a helmet.

It would be a titanium hardtail with hybrid 105/GRX, hopefully room for a larger chainring, 11-46t cassette, mechanical brakes… couplers for all the cables to make swapping flat and drop bars a cinch.

Since I do a whole bunch of mountain biking, I’d rather have a mountain bike that can do road than a gravel bike that can’t do much mountain.

I’m kicking the genie in his marbles and telling him to GTFO.

Something with relaxed road geometry (so i can get old and not kill my back) that can be ridden for road and gravel, and has room for 2.1s, so I can do light XC too. If I have to name a specific bike, the closest thing I have to that is my Revolt Advanced. It’s not perfect for anything, but if I can only have 1 bike, it would allow me to ride 90% of what I ride today.

Pegoretti, Big Leg Emma, made and painted by Dario of course.

Campag mechanical Super Record gruppo, BORA WTO 60 wheels (rim brake)… the rest TBD.

Would probably feel too nice initially but that frame would actually last a lifetime.

An XC hardtail for sure. With the right tires they are quick on the road, too. I moved to a completely new place in a new country, and decided to go explore a bit. No way I’d do that on my aero road bike.

My Kona Super Jake CX bike. CX bikes are the “Swiss Army knives” of cycling. One bike to rule them all. My Focus Mares CX with a very durable Shimano 105 group set would be my 2nd choice. Right now I have Schwable 38m gum-wall gravel tires on. I do everything on this bike.

That’s a fun challenge. A Moots Vamoots RCS might be a decent choice.

Anything by Rene Herse or Alex Singer, the great French Constructeurs. Designed primarily between 1940 and 1975 they are known to stand the test of time better than any of these new-fangled contraptions

Does this mean if you crash it, it cannot break or ever be destroyed? In that case, I’d go with another Canyon Ultimate CF SLX EVO (wireless), like I already have.

 it.
