on sram website but seems like some stores are $650 not exactly sure what the mixed up is
but wow a $150 chainring, managed to be more expensive than the xxsl threaded chainring which I believe is $128

I want to just highlight a detail though. It’s always hard to know how much my thoughts really come through in a long form review. I believe SRAM just set a new standard. There will be inevitable hand wringing about the compatibility and price (both fair) but if you are only concerned with performance, this blows away everyone else. Shimano 2X is still relevant but I greatly prefer 1x for gravel and 1x13 does it all. In terms of the wheels, I’ve got them mounted with the 45 and it’s so fast I’ll probably just leave it alone for an upcoming 500k race. It’s like 80% road but the 45 is so fast that it just isn’t worth bothering to unmount/remount tires.
So what do you think? Performance only, is there an alternative you think makes more sense?
What was the claimed size vs. the measured size once mounted?
With tires this big, how many mm of suspension travel can they replace compared to a hardtail?
Obviously both have their place and it depends on the terrain, but it seems the overlap is getting bigger
Can you compare the overall ride to the original Forecrest? Is it really night and day difference and better for gravel? Or just a different more compliant ride? Does it feel faster?
I haven’t seen it posted, or maybe I’ve missed it, but what is the external width of these bad boys?
Can you use the current (old) Red XPLR crankset with the new rear deraileur? Could you use the new rear deraileur with a 12 sp cassette?
I wonder what Race Kings blow up to on the new Zipps. Right now running 47 Pathfinders on 404 FC and they are right at 47mm.
The new deraileur is sweet, but can’t see myself upgrading for a couple of years. Maybe when the 2026 Crux comes out.

The compatibily says that it will work with existing shifters, and only the 10-46 cassette, which sort of implies that you could use APEX shifters and crankset, with the new mech and casette, and have a 13 speed system, interesting (Force would make more sense), one for gplama and dc
In @gpl’s video, he notes at the end that there is an option for using the 1x13 system in a road configuration.
Again, just seems like a strange market introduction strategy. SRAM introduces the new Red on road in 12spd but then, only a few months later, also introduces an XPLR version that could be used in the road with no issues (if you want 1x)
Wouldn’t their other option be to sit back and wait on a product that’s market ready instead of pushing it out and making sales? Can’t see how that’s a better strategy in a big down year for cycling.
My point is that it is a disjointed strategy, both from a product development and market introduction standpoint.
And it isn’t like SRAM developed this 13spd XPLR option in the few months since the 12spd road stuff was introduced. It was happening concurrently.
Disjointed or not, I would be a happy buyer if I was riding a bike with any frequency this year. I wished before for a 10-36 with a big bailout of a 13th gear attached, and that’s exactly what SRAM provided. So their big mistake in not selling to me is not releasing it last year
I’m guessing that it’s because the XPLR 13 speed doesn’t support 2x.
And there’s nothing stopping anyone using the XPLR 13 for a road bike anyway, (or even the MTB transmission RD if they wanted).

I don’t know I kinda think it might be awesome in person. Okay, after zooming in on it I’m way into it. Too bad I’m not really the market for an S-Works one-off with their pricing these days.
You could probably build up a sweet bike with matching bar tape and bits. Personally, I’m a fan.
