Muscle mass, oxidative capacity and effective VO2max in highly trained athletes

Yeah I mean I’m not an expert but these guys seem to own the whole moderation team so it certainly starts to look a bit culty when you realize that they ban people for suggesting that a coach can do more than massive meme blocks.

Like honestly guys if the answer is oh that is too difficult for me to run at scale to my coaching business, then yes your large coaching business is a problem, simple as that, and maybe please park it somewhere else than the /r/velo sub as occasionally espoirs riders or actually talented riders will post there looking for inspiration and it’s super lame to have some tired out coach working a full time job doing something else come in without the time to get into any kind of discussion and just throw down a big fat “no” in the comments which gets 75 upvotes from their podcast “fans” and effectively ends what could be an interesting thread.

An example

Better off not bothering posting, and certainly better off if this wasn’t one of the head moderators of the sub.

Short answer was that that was a fairly concise and accurate answer. A bigger front chain ring will not help raise your FTP. Now, being that you cherry picked that one comment, were there subsequent comments that did address it in more detail that didn’t offend you with the brevity?

The thing about Reddit is, no one is stopping you from making a subreddit and volunteering your time to moderate it.

Why is that an interesting question worth spending time on?

I am currently trying to add mass to boost my 10min down power by adding muscle. Its also giving me the desire to be more lean to take the full advantage. I am 50 now also and it just seems like a good idea for myself and where I was. I am 2 years into this and am seeing some benifits already. I enjoy riding long distances with no big surges required. I was also a guy that struggled on 3 min Vo2 efforts for years on an FTP that was pretty spot on. I think I underestimated the anaerobic contribution personally on efforts lower in the time ranges especially out on the road not on my trainer.

It is also a way to test things maybe.

If this was true I would have been banned years ago. There are plenty of people that disagree with them or post training advice that goes against what they suggest, they don’t get banned from what I can see :man_shrugging:

Oh please they don’t own anything. They’re more active than other coaches and consistently provide better advice than a lot of people.

Rory has given me so much good and unsolicited advice, and if I were to be coached by anyone I’d go with him

As to the Reddit question you posted. It is no. I upgraded from 50 to 52t chainring. It does absolutely nothing for ftp

Hello all. I am SAeN from the r/velo subreddit. Just to clear a few things up about the person moaning about me:

  • I have been giving out free advice on that subreddit for like 8 years now. It has never resulted in financial gain for myself as I have regularly refused to coach people that asked me through reddit (initially an anxiety/impostor syndrome thing, now more about wanting to not have my first interaction be with someone anonymous.)

  • I became a mod on that subreddit well after I started coaching for Kolie/EC. My sole impact there is that I remove posts asking what bike people should buy. I have never removed content from another coach because frankly why would I bother. That subreddit has as many people giving good information as it does giving bad. I don’t care either way. There are a bunch of coaches on there that also pitch themselves, they’re welcome to and I have on several occasions pointed people towards coaches that are not me or EC

  • Perhaps most important of all to this discussion, I happen to know who OP is and why they got banned from the subreddit and eventually this year the discord after they popped up:

  1. They were banned from the subreddit for repeatedly posting covid misinformation, even when it wasn’t even remotely related to the subject of discussion.

  2. They were banned from the discord because they were being exceptionally creepy towards a female user of the discord. They also called all the users of the discord trash and there was a lot of people requesting that the mods take action due to how they were acting.

For the avoidance of doubt, they were not banned from either community because they don’t agree with everything said by Kolie or myself. They were banned on both occasions for being a complete weirdo.
