Midwest Events for *2025*

Looks like it. There were some very unhappy people in the area. I made the mistake of looking at one of the local Facebook pages and there were a lot of negative comments. I got Coal Rolled at one point. I’ve done the race three times and that’s happened twice. The kids I took from our local MTB team had a good time, so if they want to go back I will take them, but if it were just me I won’t.

Dust Bowl Riders - what does y’all running?

I ran 47 pathfinders last year (RIP) and have heard mixed things about the new Pathfinders so far…also given all the corners on the route I would like something with more grip. Leaning towards Tracers but heard a lot of ppl flatted those at Unbound. I know Dust Bowl is pretty tame gravel but I loved the puncture resistance of the old Pathfinders.

This guy is doing the Great Plains gravel route. The more people do this, are we going to need a thread annex?

Lachlan appears to be very whelmed with Nebraska gravel.

Anybody riding Core-4 or Gravel Worlds?

So many people in town for core4! Course is in great shape. Going to be hot but awesome :sign_of_the_horns:

The Gravel Worlds Men’s Elite field is surprisingly well stacked this year. I’m assuming largely due to the fact that they’re paying out quite a few podium places.

Anyone raced Filthy 50 before? Looking for tire suggestions.

Long story short - my Crux fork is damaged so I have to race my old Felt that can only clear a 35mm in back and 40mm in front. Wondering if I can get away with something like Schwalbe G-one RS or if I should look for something with a bit more traction / knobs.

Raced it four times. The g-one is totally fine there. Any fast tire will be good, slicks would be fine. There’s only one short downhill that is at all rough. Lots of rollers, lots of pavement.

Thanks for this. I’ve also been debating tire choice for Filthy. I’ve been testing out the G-one Speed Pro 60c tires and they are super fast and fat but also super slick, basically the RS but without the slight side knobs.

I’ve yet to find a website with reliable paved/non-paved data for many of these rural gravel races (aka most gravel races) for pre-race scouting. Google Maps streetview often helps but doesn’t have rural coverage. RideWithGPS has a paved/unpaved estimate - it estimates about 20% paved/80% unpaved for Filthy. For reference, RideWithGPS estimates the GDG 50 was 37% paved/63% unpaved.
