Midwest events for *2024*

That sucks. Now it’s like a group ride?

Pretty muc, I guess……I guess I’ll see how many people I can pick off.

Could see if you could get a bump to wave one.

Yeah, and I’m sure I could sneak into the wave with my buddies, too….we’ll see.

Stay where you belong :rage:. I don’t want you Wave 2’ers, we got enough peeps up hear already!

You could just go to wave 1, no one would know any different besides MI-XC.

I tried the wave 2 last year it really sucked haha.

I’ve been sick since last Wednesday so although I’ll be at Barry, I’ll probably be dumped pretty fast from wave 1.

After my crash last year at BRX, I ended up with the front of Wave 2. I will say, it was quite enjoyable though. It felt more like a hard group ride as opposed to all out fighting for position and pack dynamics in Wave 1.

So really, it depends on what kind of experience you want. However, if you’re near or above 4 w/kg it’s gonna feel a bit too slow.

I was there with you then, when I say it sucked I should have mentioned that the beginning of the race was just like wave 1 and the effort IMO was the same until sager road.

Welp…based on how my legs felt on the group ride this AM, I may as well just stay in Wave 2. :confounded:

Zero high end….anything approaching VO2 efforts was just not sustainable, so I mostly sat on and just took my(short) pulls.

You have done a ton of work leading into this week. Keep training or back it off?

I did a 7.5 anaerobic work out yesterday on the trainer. I was able to complete that but legs felt HEAVY. Then I went outside for 2 hours of zone 2 in the sun. Outside I had to keep pulling back on the power since 75% felt so easy. No idea how I will feel on saturday, today I have hour sweet spot and 2 hours zone 2 outside. Then 2 zone 2 days and openers friday.

Hey Midwest friends –

I’m bummed to report that due to some unanticipated “life” stuff I’m going to be unable to attend the Barry this weekend … my quixotic quest for that AG podium will continue for another year and another long winter on the trainer trying to find form by March in the Midwest :slightly_frowning_face:

In the spirit of paying-it-foward, I have a VIP, race-day parking pass for the for the lot at the Hastings Ace Hardware – which you can get for donating to the Thornapple Trail Association, but they usually sell out really fast. If anyone here on the board wants it, send me a PM – I’m not looking for any money, I’ll just need your email address to send you the flier (you need to print it out and put it on your dashboard).

First one to message me gets it.

Also, I just canceled my reservation at the Bay Pointe Inn – they also generally sell out for this weekend. Not sure if anyone is looking for lodging near Hastings, but I’d call them ASAP as they will have a room opening.

Good luck to everyone pinning on a number :metal:

Really bummed to be missing this for many reasons…

EDIT: The parking pass has been claimed. Again, good luck to all!

Damn, man…that is too bad, but totally understand the “life” issues.

Time to regroup and focus on the next event!

Thanks, man. If you’ve got any recommendations in the June/July time frame let me know. I’m totally determined to do the Iceman this year, but November is a long way away and I’m going to need something to keep me focused this summer.

HIGHLY recommend Dust Bowl 100 in Emminence, IN…sold out, but they were pretty good about getting people in off the waitlist in years past. Last weekend in July, I think?

dust bowl is amazing

Also not sure what to race in for 45 and no sun for Sat. Feel like its shoe covers, leg warmers, long finger gloves. Im screwed since all I have is skinsuits, maybe i run arm warmers and a 2nd jersey under the skin suit, but all my skin suits are TIGHT

Not even enough room for a thin wool base layer?

Value of a neck buff can’t be understated.

I would run a thermal baselayer (SS), the skinsuit, arm warmers, knee warmers, wool socks and a vest. At race efforts, that should be warm enough.

For our group ride early this AM (47*), that was pretty much what I wore, except I had a thermal vest…but at race effort, the thermal vest would have been too much and a windbreaker vest would have been perfect.

I can get a base layer, I only habe long sleeve wool, and skin suit is long sleeve

Also consider mostly cloudy skies with winds 10-20mph. Ugh, I’m in between clothing options and considering a warmer jacket versus vest and arm warmers.
