My DeSalvo commuter. I had this built in 2018 to serve as my daily ride. It’s my first Ti bike and I chose the material given that it is an all season bike, and left it raw to avoid paint chipping when I briefly lock it up outside stores while I run inside. Added a power crank set a couple of years ago when I started doing more structured training thanks for TR - now I can use my commutes to get faster!
Both of my ti Mosaic builds. MT2 and GT1-AR.
For the GT1 I Had them do a special Pantone color - Chesapeake Bay to match where I live. The frame pump and tan accents are Toyota sandstorm color
The MT2 is painted in Lunar Rock matte finish.
Hot damn those are beautiful
Oh my. The colour of your road bike frame
Here is my 2003 Serotta Councours. Will be 20 years old in February. Upgraded groupset (Shimano Ultegra 8000), wheels (Rol Race SL), seat, stem, and bar over the years. I literally haven’t ridden another road bike since I got it. Frequently wonder how a new bike would ride with 20 years of technology added, but haven’t been able to bring myself to try. Paid $2300 for the custom built/welded frame (custom fab’d to my dimensions).
I did the same with my 2003 Airborne. The only limitations of the older Ti frames is tire clearance and rim brakes. So long as the welds are good and you can live with the other hard limits, they are solid bikes.
Mine wasn’t quite that old but in 2018 in part looking for the answer to my dramatic loss of form (it turned out to be bowel cancer) I replaced my 41,000 mile (6 year old) ti with this.
Thankfully after I got the tumour whipped out Ive been able to make full use of it, even during the chemo in 2019, (circa 20,500 miles). Whilst thanks to commuting I have ridden other road bikes, like your beauty, I would never look at another road bike other than a ti.
I quite like some of the details I got added:
My Ti build… 1999 Serotta Legend Ti custom made for me. Updated w Sram eTap 11spd, Zipp 303 tubeless, Zipp CF aero bars. This bike is on my Wahoo and serves as my TR pain cave bike. Fun fact Ben Serotta traded bikes with me and built this beautiful frame.
good to see more Serotta’s being posted up in this thread. I’ll add one more. This a Colorado Ti circa '97 (my best guess) built up with Ultegra R8000, Zipp bars and stem, Thompson Elite seat post, Selle Italia Flite Flow saddle, Mavic Ksyriums and the obligatory Assiomas
And here it is being pressed into service
Since I started this topic three years ago, it’s been a pleasure to feast my eyes on all your lovely titanium beauties!
Great to see many of you riding old Ti bikes with upgraded gear.
Mine is coming up to nine years old now and has just had a refresh with a new R7000 groupset - I can’t afford Ultegra but the R7000 is a big improvement on the previous mix of 10 speed Ultegra/Dura Ace.
It’s a custom made Burls with an Easton fork. It’s got clearance for 25c which suits me just fine, although I may get a fork with space for 28c one day, as the rear can fit this size. With the resurgence of handbuilt steel bikes, there are more straight-steerer all carbon forks on the market than ever before, it seems.
The wheels are lightweight handbuilts with Kinlin rims and a sensible spoke count of cx rays. My indulgent item is the Thomson Masterpiece seat post which, with the wheels and carbon saddle, help to keep everything well under 8kg, I think it’s around 7.7 currently, up from 7.5 previously, but still light enough for me.
They’re amazing bikes when unpainted for the fact that even when old they show no visible signs of ageing, so it really is like getting a new bike when you buy new kit for the frame. Unfortunately Scottish roads in winter mean it may have to remain unridden for a while - I have plenty of winter bike options!
What is the max width tire you can fit in the rear on your Serotta? On my Concours I can run a 25, but not a 28 mm tire in the rear (barely rubs) on alloy wheel with a 23 mm external rim width. 303s likely run wider external width than mine. i believe when i looked last 303s were maybe 27 external width in the rear… figured such a width may or may not allow a 25 mm tire in the rear. 28s only barely rub in the rear when I stand and hammer and only on 1 of the stays. I’ve dished the wheel as far as I can away from that stay and still no go on the 28 rear tire. I run a 28 up front no problem and do so to improve ride quality and stay with a 25 in the rear. Really want to upgrade to carbon wheels for the aero benefits (~45 mm depths like Zipp 303s).
Just now saw your reply, sorry for delayed response. I am running 25’s and have looked into anything wider. I
You mean a gravel bike? Or are you creating a new bike category?
For the uninitiated, DbMTB is a thing and has been for longer than many might realize. And despite the now blurred lines we see in the expanded range of gravel bikes, these (and their monstercoss cousins) came a bit before.
I love my Salsa Cutthroat…but yikes this is beautiful
Is that the GT-1X?
T-Lab R3 This was their website model for the R3 page. Purchased as just a frame at a SERIOUS discount.
Took about a year to get a full Ultegra 8100 Di2 group set for it. I had one King Ti cage and picked up a second over deals week.
I got the wheels to complement my X3 in Groad-mode. I was 225 lbs when I bought it so they are beefier than they need to be.
32h Nox Falcor D rims with DT Swiss spoked laced on Chris King Hubs. I won’t need to move them again.
Pictures of the seat tube to show the bend they put into it for FD placement.
