Absolutely. Make it as easy as possible to start and complete the workout. It can be as simple as a 6x4 foot area with trainer, fan and stand.
Turbo goes front and center in the living room then! Or by the kitchen counter.
Great word. Saving for future use. Thanks for the vocab of the day. ![]()
Best use of a high chair I’ve ever seen. Fantastic.
I bought it from Home Depot, it was just listed a barn wood with a few different colors. The brand I used is UFP-Edge. I love the way it turned out. I want to do another room in the house as well!
Wrong thread to ask but iirc you’re doing a Cardiff half so ask them by email.
They are probably doing that under British Triathlon rules, non-drafting, it’s been ages since I worried about the bike rules but I think the major difference from TT is how far forward you can be on the bars. You can definitely have them flat or angled.
I recently moved my paincave from the cold, dark garage to the warmth and comfort of our formal living room! So much better having the big screen TV to watch and no more frozen toes on those longer workouts, (I remember doing WWDD2020 and nearly getting frostbite on my toes when I still had my pain cave in the garage). Next to my Kickr Core is my wife’s Peloton (collecting dust) and then I have a bench and dumbells i use for strength work. The last photo shows the fancy new rubber interlocking tile mats I just got. The living room has surround sound speakers and a big subwoofer for those challenging workouts where some extra loud bass helps distract from the suffer.
.
That’s the big take away. The easier it is to jump on and go, the more likely you are to do the session.
Oh that set up all looks very nice. My loft can get cold at the start of workouts in the winter, I just go old school with headphones. It’s clear that I need to tidy up a bit.
is this your run coach? what a cutie
Couldn’t find it online quickly, but somewhere out there on the web there are photos from a couple who took their huge cathedral ceiling living room and turned it into a crossfit gym. Hanging ropes, gymnastics rings, rowers, bikes and of course big power rack and iron (well bumpers because, crossfit, LOL).
It was an awesome gym.
You married an amazing woman, theres no way I’d be able to set up camp like that in our lounge…
Phenomenal
Had something close to this set up for years but recently built the platform for the rollers to sit on so that the rack can be pushed further back. Freed up a lot of space and I’m hoping that flipping the J hooks around will provide a decent shoulder bumper for riding my TT bike on the rollers which is something I’d like to improve.
I have the same hangboard in my own garage setup and for a split second I thought maybe I posted this while sleepwalking last night!
I’ve been working through this thread from the beginning. This is the best one I’ve seen so far!
Ooff. You’re brave, I wouldn’t go there. TT on rollers.
This is pretty effin’ awesome!!!
I’m working on a detached shed/garage project with my wife at present, which we hope to have done somewhat soon. My bikes are already out there, and we found a wall-mounted weight rack and quality barbell. Now we just need to find reasonably priced (or even available) weight plate sets, floor padding, etc. Working on painting at present.
With the bar on one side, the wall on the other, and the bumper guards for the front drum I don’t think anything especially dramatic can happen.
That said, I haven’t tried. Though I have ridden in the faux aerobar position on my road bike on rollers off and on for awhile now. Not at any particularly significant wattages though.
You haven’t met me yet!
I had rollers, have a love of door frames, a friend had rollers in the garage, the wife came in, the wife got dinner from the freezer…. The wife left and turned the light
off as she did………. He didn’t have a doorframe.
Do both together, like me ![]()
TLDR - New and happy to be here!
I’ve been lurking in the forum and podcasts for a couple years now. A few years ago, I was searching for a cycling fitness podcast and I saw TrainerRoad. I kind of scoffed at the idea of indoor training at the time
I thought, if you’re going to ride your bike, then go for a bike ride! I was so ignorant of all this at that time. I didn’t give it much more thought. I actually started listening to the MTB Podcast with Jonathan and Steven, and really enjoyed it. After a while, I ended up back at Ask a Cycling Coach and figured I’d give it a try. I’m so thankful I did! I didn’t know all the folks back then, but I recognized Jonathan’s voice from MTB. I’ve learned a lot and I’ve been trying to just make up RPE workouts on my dad’s hand-me-down ~20-year-old Performance fluid rollers, on which the band broke a while ago, so your fork had to be mounted. Well, I recently took the plunge and got a Kickr Snap (thanks to my LBS for 10% off!
) and started actually doing TR, and I am so excited! I’ve never trained with power, or even heart rate. I ramp tested, hoping for 200 W, which was basically a guess, and ended up at 182 W. I look forward to continuing to be humbled and encouraged! Great to be here!
As I set up the garage in our new house, I couldn’t help but be thankful, praising God! The bars and weights came from my wife’s aunt and uncle who were not using them anymore. The rack and bench came from a guy at church who had them given to him, but he was moving and he didn’t want to move them, so he passed them on to me.
I do enjoy weightlifting. I’m 6’ and 225# and fairly happy with all my lifts right now, so my focus for now is to get back under 200# and get FTP up. Happy to be here and excited for the future!
I’m also type 1 diabetic for almost 24 years now, for whomever that may interest!
