You are thinking of this backwards. You don’t work TOWARDS being able to do 20-30 minutes at FTP. Your FTP is what you can presently do for that long (more like 40-70).
Thanks for your detailed response. I normally do the entire SS/Threshold WO at gear ratio of 50x17 and Endurance at 50x13.
Is a 50 your small, or only, chainring? I believe it’s generally better to use the small chaining in ERG mode.
Caro:
Thanks for your detailed response that was aligned with my understanding of the inner workings of TR. Appreciate you looking into my past WO history and (thus) making a measured judgement.
You are correct about my Ochiltree WO experience. It was when I was recovering from about 2 weeks of severe illness. I just took a chance with it not knowing of its inherent complexity (TSS:91 and IF: 0.95) at a time when I was at FTP of ~ 142. I still remember the struggle and the fact that it flagged and downgraded me. And I was happy about it. However, this Ochiltree experience helped me a lot!!
Thanks for giving me the post WO survey web link. I now understand how to answer the survey much better. In hindsight, I believe I answered it correctly by calling it “hard” because, if required, I could have done another cycle for another 10-15 minutes.
Thanks again!!
50 is my large chainring.
I take short break (30-45 seconds) during the longer Recovery periods … and not during 30 seconds short Recovery period.
If you can’t do 20m of uninterrupted work at your ftp then your ftp is too high. 30m would be the lower end of what most would consider ftp.
Thanks. I’ll let TR decide based on what Caro said.
In that case, you might want to try your small chainring, combined with one of the larger cogs, and see if that helps with the issues at lower wattage.
Thanks! That was an advice I received from a TR coach. I follow it at times when doing very challenging WOs.
Welcome Glad I could be of help!
