Heat without a sauna

I get stronger and stronger. My best ramp test was in September after a block of SSB1 with 2 hour weekend rides in 100F / 38C temps, and on the trainer in 80+F / 27+C temps.

Who in the Pro-Peloton is doing this??

I can’t imagine wearing 2 sweaters and a jacket on the trainer. Gross.

I would much rather go to the gym and sit in the sauna or steam room. Do an easy 45min jog on the treadmill first if you don’t want to go there “just” for the sauna.

I’ve heard several podcasts with Kevin Poulton on indoor training. He coaches WT athletes.

On some other podcast, I recall Roglic doing indoor training at altitude - like 2 x 3hr sessions during training camps. Sounds brutal!

FYI, heat training is additional stress. It needs proper spacing, recovery and attention to not over do it. I fell into that mistake in 2019. My heat adaptation was greatly improved but I was also a bit too fatigued on race day. It was probably at best a wash between being race fresh and heat adapted. I’d rather be a bit fresher and this year I’ll air on the side of caution.
