Campag’s official line is that for a total T difference (chainring + largest sprocket) of over 4 the chain should be resized. The Campag specialist around here reckoned you might get away with 6 - so switching 9-42 and 9-36 might work - but not 8, so 9-36 to 10-44 is not going to work. I’ve not tried tbf.
