Are you running the Pathfinder 47’s on your Crux @TexanDad? Any fitment issues? Which rims (or internal width) do you run? If I can fit these on my Crux (with 2x GRX Di2) I’d love to try
Not @TexanDad but I also run 47 Pathfinders on my Crux. Love them on the dirt and gravel. No fit issues. (IW 23 front/22 rear on Reserve 34/37 rims). I echo everything already said…. As mentioned it can feel sluggish on the pavement but personal stats show they are just fast as the 42s and 38s. On gravel, for me, they are faster and feel faster.
You’ll have no issues. I ran them on my Crux for Unbound w/ a 23mm IW rim and they only measured @ 45mm and I had loads of clearance.
Currently running Thundero 48’s (measure 47.5) on 25mm IW and again, zero clearance issues. Based on these tires, I’d have zero hesitancy ordering 50’s as my next tire option.
ETA - also, the Crux is rated for 47mm clearance, so don’t worry about the Pathfinders fitting.
thanks guys. Just to confirm, y’all are running 2x Di2? I need to head out to the garage with some calipers later but I seem to remember that was my limiting factor
No I am running 1x…but I don’t see anything on the Specialized website that limits clearance based on 2x vs. 1x. OTOH, all their bikes are spec’d as 1x.
Pretty sure Specialized has a 30 day no questions asked return policy…I know I returned some MTB shoes after I had ridden them for a few rides and had no issues. So you can probably order a set of tires and see if they fit on your 2x.
Thanks, I’ll caliper out my clearance later
A SRAM AXS battery supposedly drops the tire clearance to 42c per the docs.

Good find…but since there is no similar callout for 2x GRX Di2, @Donoman could be OK. He should probably just call Specialized and get an official answer.
You should be fine. I ran both an Ultegra Di2 Front mech with 50/34 and a GRX Di2 front with 48/31 on my Crux with 45mm labeled tires on 25mm internal rims with room to spare. Even 2.1" Thunder Burts “fit” but the front derailleur does become one of the limiting factors before the stays do.
I’d like to go from 38 pathfinders to a 2.1 on my 1x Crux. I ride 90% off road with a good amount of single track, including loose various size rocks and roots - UK South Downs. These are for dry summer. Will swap to narrow XC in winter.
About to order 2.1 either XC Mezcals or Thunder Burts and hope they’ll fit.
Any suggestions between the two tires? These would go onto 25mm internal Terrà CLX I.
I have the 2.1 Mezcals. My primary gravel route is 90% gravel with very little “hero gravel” but a variety of chunky sections, some washboards, loose gravel, with lots of punchy climbs. The Mezcals make the descents far less sketchy and faster. Overall the they make the ride far more comfortable. I haven’t really tested speed but if I’m slower, it’s marginal. I don’t feel slower.
TB 2.1 on Terra CLX 1 come out at 48-49mm measured width. Really nice looking tyre. excited to try it.
Got Mezcal and Thunder Burts.
Thunder Burt was 450 grams vs Mezcal 750 for the XC Trail version Amazon chose to send. (That’s heavier than the frame I’m pretty sure)
Installed TB’s, about 3mm clearance on dropouts each side. Seat stays, tube and fork all fine. Got er our for a 10 mile spin, at 20 psi, up and down some rocky roads - unfortunately there is some rub, so may need to downsize to 50mm.
Sad as I liked the ride, plush and fast up and down (steep large loose rocks on double track). Slower on straight mellow gravel, as expected. (All based on Strava segments on my frequent flyer route, got some PB’s and 2nd’s)
Looks great too…
Is it just the lugs rubbing? There’s always:
I rode RaceKings with similar clearance. fine, until the wheel is slightly out of true, or theres mud, it really did a number on the frame. I would size down for sure. Maybe it fits on the front better?
Yeah front has plenty of clearance. And the rear if it stays for sure only for dry conditions without mud.
I mean rear looks to have just enough for a straight wheel so I’ll see how I get on with the trim.
I stuck some white electrical tape to see if it will continue rubbing.
Once you hit mid, your done
weight is absolutely a factor. I can achieve a 4-5 min difference on my local benchmark 60min route between 33c cyclocross tires and 38c heavy Vittoria’s that are 300g per tire heavier.
Unless your local 60 minute route is straight up Alp D’huez, then only some small portion of that time savings can be attributed to weight, even a full 600 grams…
