Anyone travel with an EVOC bike bag on Southwest. The dimensions seem to be a little larger than what is allowed.
Thanks in advance.

No one got back to you? What did you find out?
I just ordered an EVOC and interested to hear what you just said about SW airlines. On another note, I am flying American Airlines and many folks say oversized soft cases are handled better. However, I just learned that if damage occurs, their liability does not cover if a bike is in soft case. . . only hard cased bikes are covered if damaged. Thoughts? Anyone out there comment on either Southwest size restrictions or the American liability coverage (ie bad experiences with soft case). thanks, Mark
I have flown with an EVOC with SW with no issue (actually had 2 bike cases with me at once).
Regarding damage liability, I have little faith that I would be well reimbursed for any damage to a bike by an airline and it’s an unfortunate risk we take I think…
I love the EVOC case for my MTB as it is super fast and efficient, but I have the Scicon case for my road bikes and tat is the ticket when traveling with them. It can be found cheaper than listed here. Scicon Sports | Aerotech Evolution Bike Box Scicon Sports - Black - TP070200544
EVOC on SWA June 2021 = $75 each way. In total 3 legs and the bag did beautifully.
I work for AA and I we actually changed our policy on bikes: Now it’s a 50lbs/23Kg weight limit and a size limit of 320cm (LxWxH). If it meets these criteria standard check bag fee applies which is $30 domestic (CONUS). If not it’s $150. The EVOC bag is size is 262cm fwiw. I can not comment on liability regarding soft/hard cases other than if it’s in a soft case they treat it as a fragile item. Not sure how that works regarding liability. Definitely call prior but, be prepared to hold for days as our operation doesn’t seem to believe in customer service anymore.
Thanks Landis. That’s good to hear that you work for AA and say they should be treating the bike bags as fragile. I hope that is true in the real world. But yes it is a fact - I looked into liability and only hard cases are covered. by AA if damaged. Bikes in bags are not covered if damaged. It seems like a lot of people do well with the bags though, I guess I will try my luck. I cannot stand the tear down and working so hard to get a bike in a box - especially a mtbx.
