I’ve been using DT Swiss factory built wheelsets for many years with Centerlock hubs. For the 15mm front hub I normally use the Shimano SM-HB20 lockring (or the seemingly identical old DT Swiss externally serrated lockring).
With my new XRC 1501 front wheel, however, I’ve run into a problem. The Shimano SM-HB20 lockring bottoms out before it could secure the Centerlock rotor (i.e. the rotor is still loose laterally when the lockring is fully tightened). This wheel came with a 6-bolt to Centerlock adapter, which has a thin (road style) DT Swiss lockring, and that fits perfectly (it secures the disc rotor to the front hub). But its rather thin flange makes it tricky to tighten, as most socket style tools have beveled notches, which can slip on such a think lockring. I know that these thin lockrings must be used on some DT Swiss road thru axle front hubs (as the Shimano SM-HB20 and its clones) do not clear the inner side of many road bike forks). But I didn’t realize that DT Swiss front hubs now use the same thin lockring too. Or is there still a thicker lockring (similar to the Shimano SM-HB20 or old style DT Swiss) available for mtb hubs?
