Does anyone here actually race their bike?

I have not raced (except a few tri events 15 years ago) and its mostly down to family commitments. I’m free to ride a lot during the workday (which is lovely!) but I’m pretty much primary caretaker and heavily invested in my family life when everyone is home from school/work.

I’m not sure where trying to finish gravel races fits.

But only pack fodder

I worked hard to earn my title of “Slowest Pro you’ll ever meet”. If I am not dead last, I am pretty close.

I’m hitting the start line in just a couple weeks for the first time since September!!! SOOOO EXCITED!! =D

Trying to get back into it. Did my first crit in 10 years a couple of weeks ago and managed to get lapped about every 10 minutes. Working right now on TR for a late Sep crit + cyclocross season. We’ll see how it goes  This is my first try with structured workouts so eager to see how it goes.

I race gravel, mtb and cx every chance I get. Anything from our local xc and cx series to 150 mile gravel races and even an occasional NUE race. I’m pack fodder (mid pack cat1) but I love it.

I race time trials mainly. The occasional bunch race when it fits my schedule but there are more options with time trials at the moment so it’s been a while since I’ve done anything else.

Nearly every weekend with the local club. Summer is criterium season and the rest of the year is a mixture of handicap (majority) and scratch races.

I would love to but can’t find any races that I can get easily get to.

Little bit of race prep this morning :sob:

In a recent coaching consult, I was described as a “diesel”, so naturally I entered a crit as my first ever race with only about a week to try and get ready for it! I did a fast group ride Tuesday, 40/20s at 135% Thursday then this today… :grimacing: I guess it turned into more of a taper workout!!

To be fair these workouts aren’t very similar at all to how I imagine the race will pan out. Here’s what I think the course will be. It’s a smooth race track, about 2 miles long, and only 2 real sharp corners.

Yes and have been for many years. Seems like I usually get in 30-40 races a year. Currently tapering for Tulsa Tough next week. Then almost every week end all the way into October ending with Sea Otter. Highlights in between are Nationals, State RR and maybe BWR Cedar City.

What are you focusing on @anthonylane ?

Yes, I do though I’m not as competitive as I was a year ago and I race less frequently as a result. Moreover, I now live in a country where road racing and TT’s are not as prevalent as they are in the U.S.

Hefty schedule! What age group/category do you race in? I’ve got a couple of gravel races on the calendar, all local and nothing major. Will be racing SS CX this year as a cat 3. Might do Trek Cup in Waterloo, WI in October.

Oh yeah, I participate the hell out of events like that all the time.

I love ToAD and Wisconsin racing in general! You guys are so mid-west friendly it’s awesome! I miss it (grew up in Michigan).

Tulsa I’ racing masters A which is 40+ cat 1/2. States we race cat 1/2 together and I will work for several cat 1’s on our team as well as at least one or two cat 2’s who are trying to get points for cat 1…I’m just there to work. Nationals will have to be 50+. All the rest I’m not sure. A mix of masters and cat 1/2 races depending on the race.

I’m racing cat 4 at Lotus on Tuesday. This is my power profile from the race on 29th May. Spot the point where I got dropped! :grinning:

Ouch! Looks tough. I’ll be the 6ft3" wind break on an old Tarmac. See you there!
