Cold road race Saturday-what to wear

Good point - if they want to call out a centerline rule or something they’d need to see it. Better safe than sorry i suppose. Thinking I may just keep warm stuff on and drop right before the start since my wife will be there and just ride with base layer, jersey and warmers. Pretty sure I’ll forget it’s even cold five minutes in.

Doing Bariani on Sunday? How was Madera stage race?

Me? I’m doing Tour de Murrieta. I didn’t do Madera.

Good luck and have fun this weekend!

(I vaguely recall seeing @Scollett84 was planning to do Madera last weekend)

Thanks, yeah doing Bariani. Madera was good, won the crit, and was second in the road race and TT for 2nd in my cat (only 6 guys). But was stoked overal, funny mostly on the two 2nds because I hadn’t touched aero bars until a week ahead and on the Rr I solo’d hard for the last 25 only towing the guy who won (he had no reason to work) - fun times, and honestly TR, the podcast and this forum have all really been helping me putting up results after a few flat years!

Basically depends on how hot/cold you run, and how your appendages are. I would definitely need shoe covers; otherwise my feet would freeze. If the sun’s going to be out, you definitely won’t need the vest. I’d skip the vest–they need to see your number each time you go past the finish (yes, they keep track of everyone each lap), or if there’s a centerline infraction, etc… I’d go with a warm base layer and arm warmers… I’d also probably wear knee warmers but sounds like you are ok without them.

I did Madera as well, and overdressed on both the TT and RR. I was lucky on the TT and didn’t get any rain–the sun actually came out, so my wool baselayer was too much. I should have had a non-wool one. Madera actually wasn’t nearly as cold as I thought it would be, but I kept thinking “if it starts raining I’m going to be freezing!” Congrats on your great performance at Madera! (For me, turns out the cold I was fighting all week really lingered and I felt truly horrible both days of Madera. No energy, couldn’t put out any power for the life of me. I would have curled up and cancelled except I had 8 other teammates coming, so I figured I needed to give it some sort of effort.)

@runriderandi, I’m glad you figured out what works for you!!
