Clothing for temperature turbo sessions

It sounds as though you have power in this outbuilding, so could you get a small heater to take off the chill? Maybe something with a remote, so you can turn it off when you feel warm.

Nope, just northern UK!

It’s not very warm, and it is also normally pretty humid, over 80-85%, which makes it feel even colder. (I guess it would make it feel warmer if it was warm in the first place?)

I think people don’t realise how far north the UK is.

To be fair, we actually had a handfull of days over 30 degree C this summer. The year before we had none.

But it’s not uncommon for it to be only 15 C in July.

For my mate who I ride with here in the UK, at the heady heights of 15 C (“Scorchio!”) it’s already too warm for him and he’s complaining of the heat :joy:

They’re lucky to have the Gulf Stream. It keeps it pretty moderate, if a bit damp. Here in CO USA, ~14 degrees latitude further south, iIt gets down below -10C with some regularity. This Sunday is forecast to get down to 14F (-10C)

Not something I’ve dealt with as my trainer has always been in my residence, heated in the winter and airconditioned in the summer. It makes me think though. Even if it was pretty cool, without airflow I think I’d warm up. Starting out might be a bit chilly though. What I do when I’m going to ride outside in cold weather is warm up just before by doing some calisthenics until I just start to break a sweat. That gets the blood flowing and as long as I keep riding at a decent clip, I’ll stay warm. That might work for chilly indoor riding too.

It just goes to show how differently we experience temperatures!

I have some old kit, just a zip up fleece hoodie and a pair of tracksuit bottoms with the elasticated ankle bit removed. I wear this out to the shed whilst I’m getting everything set up and then remove the trousers when I’m about to get on (over the cleats because the legs are now loose). Once I’ve been going for 10 minutes I can normally take off the hoodie.

I also have some remote controlled fans to switch on when I need them.

Without airflow, even with that temperature, you can create your own microclimate and sweat a ton. As long as it’s at least somewhat cool, whatever you decide to wear to train can be completely modulated by how much airflow you provide.
