Yes it was GTA itself. Some sort of mod.
aren’t you in San Diego? I’m guessing the mountainous route is GWL / East County territory and the flat route involves the Bayshore Bikeway or Fiesta Island.
I’ve never ridden a road bike on a ‘descent,’ much less one you’d consider not pedaling on
I just looked up my last ride, on the normal group ride route…60 miles, 296 meters climbing. That intentionally hits all the hilly parts around here.
I used to think I needed the stimulation of Zwift, Sufferfest/Wahoo Systm, or even the overly complex data of Xert to keep me interested and coming back to train. Yes TR is boring, but it’s a pretty “set it, and forget it” training option. With a full time career and multiple kids, it’s exactly what I need.
Just give me the workout, I don’t need all the other noise.
Not as long of a ride but the only elevation is from bridges over highways
Florida gravel life, no hills to coast down here.
Well this took a turn
I never thought Houston could be beat, but some of you are making my normal Sunday route look hilly!
This is the flattest route option I have
how about the “how close can you get to no coasting” outside game?
I don’t agree with Intervals definition, here it is in WKO:
Better yet, rode about 8 miles below sea level
I’m actually surprised it’s this high. Clearly I am a lazy ass!
EDIT! Also, @WindWarrior your moose is amazing! (And I added proof of outside)
Closest I have gotten from a percentage standpoint is 0.6%
It was a 4x out-and-back course and I was only coasted going into the U-turns
I had another one which was pretty close at 0.9%
This one had just 1 U-turn. Interestingly enough I did the same course about 2 months later and was over a minute faster despite having 25 more seconds of coasting
My most recent solo Z2 rides, from late last season. Under 3% coasting despite some elevation gain/loss.
Depends on how steep and what the road is like, but the route I do is has relatively straight-line or sweeping descents. Also rather than tuck for speed on those training rides, I just sit up on the descents and pedal.
I’m in Bonita, technically, but yes, you nailed it. I can do almost 3hrs via Bayshore → Coronado and back usually only having to put my foot down once. If I do laps on the strand I can stretch that out. If I take the Eastlake/Otay loop down to the border and do the bike path I can do almost 5hrs mostly flat with little stopping.
GWL from my house is about 3:45. If I just drive and park, it’s 2+. Often if I do a 3hr ride with a bunch of climbing, I’ll drive and park, ride GWL and then ride back to the turn onto Dehsa and back to get to 3hrs. I usually do that via Skyline TT if I’m solo because it’s a much safer and easier descent than LVR (plus a little more climbing too). But I can hit Honey Springs, go to Crest, ride out to Laguna, all kinds of options.
One of my favorite games, especially with elevation. Proudest of my 3:30 ride from my house to GWL with almost 6000ft EG and less than 1 min coasting the entire ride. Some serious leg speed on some of those descents.
I usually do a boatload of coaching work on the trainer, and helps the time go by while being productive. My trainer desk was probably the best investment I’ve made in my indoor setup.
Agree. At Unbound a few years back there were some long straight descents where it felt fairly safe to blast down it.
But my normal training routes have some descents where there can be some loose gravel or holes or washboards and it’s not always consistent where that stuff due to factors of its rain or what heavy trucks have come through so I’m typically super cautious on those.
