Yes that makes total sense. I must just need to improve my technique.
I don’t remember if it’s been mentioned, but the TR video is worth a watch:
There may be other good options worth review too:
To answer @mcneese.chad ’s question about 60/40 balance (or something similar). Never measured it, to be sure, and I’m not so much aiming at a specific target, just more comfort.
When I have played with issues of balance on the bike, it is pretty much using the same general approach and for the same reasons articulated in your post. It’s generally experimentation due to experiencing unwanted symptoms (sliding, numb hands, neck/shoulder stiffness, foot issues, etc.). When I find what I think is more of that elusive sweet spot, most everything on the bike gets more comfortable. The reach no longer seems to be an issue, even though I’m further back, and the drops are more accessible without any discomfort. The saddle doesn’t feel uncomfortable, and I can usually tolerate more drop without being thrown into the front of the bike. The bike feels much more stable and planted, allowing me to rail corners with more confidence. No handed riding becomes more stable, the weight really lifts off my hands, and any twitchiness disappears. This typically involves moving the saddle down and back pretty significantly over what some fit systems would recommend.
Having said all that, I’m still fighting a few compromises as I experiment with all of this, and I’m not sure I have it all nailed yet.
