Currently GP5000 S TR 32mm
The reason I asked is because I have 160 rear rotors on my 3T Exploro that I sometimes use for road and when I’m on road tyres I have to be careful not to lock up the rear.
What are you using for rotors to help with the heat issue? I get that going up a size can help but wondering if it’s worth looking beyond the stock Ultegra rotors?
I think for my local roads the 140mm will be fine but I have some events on the calendar in the spring that will have some serious descents. Can’t hurt to have a 160 ready to go by then.
I was using XTR 140’s (with the fins) at the time, went to Ultegra 160’s, and they warped really bad from heat (those 4 spoke ones), so went with XT’s, and those have been fine.
On the XC and Enduro bike I went with Galfer 2.0mm, a little thicker than shimano recommends, but work well for my needs.
Also worth noting, im on galfer pads all around now, green I beleive.
But this is a 140, on the rear, on a road bike. I’d just ride it as is and when pads/rotors are worn out in the future upgrade to 160mm if necessary.
198 cm / 106 kg here, same bike, same brake setup. No problem at all. Have been throwing it down mountains in Italy, Spain and France, without any issues at all.
I am about 15 lbs lighter than you and prefer 160/160 on gravel and road. My 140 rotors would discolor and I wore a few out. That seems to not be an issue with a 160 rear. On gravel in particular I do long climbs/descents, less of that on paved roads.
I would say keep it. It’s not worth to spend money on rear brake disc size. I bought my bike with 140/140 front and rear. Altough I have no problems so far, will switch to 160 in the front. I am 90kg and riding mostly in the Swiss Hills
